SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Provides technical, logistical, and administrative support to the Central Division Equipment Engineer and Rolling Stock Manager for theefficient and cost-effective management of roadway equipment and rolling stock. Work in both the office and in the field in all types of weather conditions to support a 24/7 operation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Observe field activities to ensure conformance with safety protocols. Correct activities that do not conform and advise supervision when necessary.
  • Report observations to the Equipment Engineer and assist in driving improvement in the overall safety culture.
  • Implements safety work plans for the prevention & elimination of personal injuries and hazardsconditions on Amtrak property and the right-of-way.
  • Ensure all regulatory and required inspections are performed on-time and at a high level through observations in the field. Correct poor performance inthis area and advise supervision when necessary.
  • Monitor the condition of roadway equipment assets throughout the division to ensure all aspects of the equipment meet or exceed all current Amtrak standardsand comply with all relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Requests and monitors the status of procurement for all material and services, and ensures the proper delivery, storage, and installation of materials aswell as the performance of any contracted services. Ensure adequate stock of material is available for running repairs. Plan installations and coordinateswork activities with other crafts and transportation.
  • Available 24/7to respond to emergencies and interruptions to the operations. Support planned work on weekends and nights in the field.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related field and three (3) years of track equipment/rolling stock maintenance/inspection expereince
  • In lieu of a degree, seven (7) years of relevant work experiencemust be clearly articulated.
  • Qualified or possess sufficient experience to be qualified in: all pertinent regulations and standards such as: RWP, applicable FRA Rules & Regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in all facets of roadway equipment inspection, maintenance, including but not limited to railroad production work, railroad operations, procedures, construction and maintenance methods, as well as working knowledge of other crafts involved.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and applied experience in railroad operations, operating rules, and divisional operating processes and procedures.
  • Possess knowledge of and ability to apply Federal Railroad Regulations including Roadway Worker Protection and those pertaining to Track SafetyStandards.



MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Must be able to interface with all levels of employees and both external and internal customers
  • Must be skilled and experienced with MS Office, creating spreadsheets, presentations, memorandums, and utilizing other applications to perform jobfunctions
  • Strong team-working and collaboration skills
  • Ability to plan well and prioritize work
  • Good decision-making skills and maintains calmness under pressure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and comprehension skills



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Five (5) years of experience in railroad operations or equipment maintenance within theEngineering Department
  • Mechanical experience working on multiple generatons of roadway and rolling stock equipment
  • Held craft positions(s) performing roadway equipment/rolling stock inspection, maintenance and repair



WORK ENVRIORNMENT:



  • Position is subject to respond to emergencies in all weather conditions 24/7/365.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities.
  • Travel approximately 35%



The salary/hourly range is $86,500 - $111,996. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
