Then consider joining the Finance Strategy & Solutions Team as our next Finance Coordinator

Finance personnel on the Finance Strategy & Solutions team within Business Affairs successfully manage unit budgets, finances, and complex business and financial matters. Members of this team strive to provide excellent financial and business support to administrators and staff in the units we partner with to accomplish the university mission. This position will support a portfolio of central units at the university with their financial needs while also collaborating within the larger finance community of Business Affairs. A successful candidate will apply general business theory and principles to daily operations. This position will work on the Accounting team under the Assistant Director to ensure goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance and within established policies, procedures, and priorities.

Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Transaction
Processing and Approval:

  • Using university systems,
    perform daily financial transactions to make payments, collect revenue,
    initiate purchases, manage assets, and accurately book expenses.
  • Review transactions and their
    associated documentation to ensure compliance of internal and external
    regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Complete necessary
    documentation for expenditures, deposits and correcting entries.
  • Support unit asset management
    and inventory in financial systems.
  • Prepare UA Foundation financial
    forms and their supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate audits for
    supporting units.
  • Provide clients with general
    guidance regarding financial questions.
  • Review expenditures against
    budget allocations.
  • Approve purchase orders,
    requisitions and amendments.
  • Authorize payments within
    prescribed limits.
  • Approve object codes and line
    detail to transactions to enable effective tracking and reporting.
  • Reconcile expenditures made via
    departmental Purchasing Cards, reviewing support and ensuring proper records
    retention.

Financial Reporting &
Analysis:

  • Collect, compile, verify, and
    analyze monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports for review by unit
    Managers, Assistant Directors and Principal Investigators.
  • Monitor daily expenditures and
    perform analysis of account activity against planned amounts.
  • Reconcile accounts monthly to
    ensure accurate recording of financial transactions.
  • Review Budget to Actuals,
    Profit and Loss and cash flow reports.
  • Prepare corrections prior to
    providing financial reports for discussion with unit partner(s).
  • Complete financial forecasting,
    planning, and modeling of finances aligned with the university fiscal calendar.
  • Perform all university-required
    month-end and fiscal-end responsibilities.
  • Ensure unit employees are paid
    timely and correctly, track labor and compensation actuals.

Financial Advice &
Compliance:

  • Act as Fiscal Officer,
    responsible for unit accounts within limits.
  • Provide unit managers with
    guidance on policies, procedures, and processes to ensure compliance.
  • Respond to financial queries
    from internal and external constituencies.
  • Support unit cash handling
    processes ensuring internal controls.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge and use of business principles, theories and concepts.
  • Knowledge of job functions, industry practices and standards.
  • Excellent team-building skills, good communication skills, demonstrate honesty and integrity, as well as being flexible and adaptable to a fast-paced and evolving environment
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Degree or certification in Accounting
