For one year, you can get paid to build sustainable solutions in a community, gain valuable hands-on experience and prepare for your future. This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.


  • Typically serve Tuesday - Saturday on the build site.
  • Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
  • Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
  • Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
  • Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.

This position will focus on home construction aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

  • Activities and attractions: The San Gabriel Valley is celebrated for its unique blend of suburban charm, cultural richness, and proximity to some of Southern California's most iconic attractions. Perfectly situated, it's just an hour's drive from the beach, the mountains, and the desert, making it a hub for outdoor enthusiasts. The area is also home to the historic Rose Bowl Stadium, which hosts world-famous events like the Rose Bowl Game and concerts. Food lovers flock here for its vibrant dining scene, featuring some of the best Asian cuisine in the country. We're also neighbors to Hollywood's entertainment scene, offering quick access to the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles. And for those seeking a bit of magic, the Disneyland Resort-famously the happiest place on earth-is only 45 minutes away!
  • Unique projects: Our affiliate will be working on the rehabilitation of 16 properties in the El Sereno neighborhood, originally purchased by the California Department of Transportation for a now-defunct highway extension project. These homes have remained vacant for years and are now being converted into affordable housing opportunities for families in need. This AmeriCorps position will play a key role in these unique projects by organizing, supervising, and leading volunteers on-site while also contributing to the construction work. These efforts will help transform neglected properties into vibrant homes, revitalizing the neighborhood and providing stable housing for the community.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
