Basic Functions

The Microbiology Laboratory Technician is responsible for the growth, structure, development and general characteristics of bacteria and other microorganisms by performing work in a microbiology laboratory.
Organizational Relationships
Reports to: Quality Assurance Manager Supervises: No Direct Reports
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Maintain inventory, orders, stock materials and equipment for laboratory use.
* Issue and maintain records of materials.
* Maintain documentation of process to facilitate analysis procedures.
* Formulate detailed observations, document results of finished product and ingredients.
* Perform data analysis based on results.
* Collect and prepare samples for analysis by recording, weighing, and blending.
* Promptly communicate findings that fall outside of allowable limits.
* Constantly evaluate and improve the laboratory's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality control methods.
* Maintain knowledge of United States, Canadian, and other applicable food regulatory requirements.
* Continuously improve professional knowledge by attending education workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.
* Comply with safety regulations and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
* Communicate with co-workers, management, clients, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
* Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
* Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

This position operates in a professional office environment which is climate controlled and a low noise area.

This position requires less than 20% travel on an as needed basis.
