Insurance Accountant

Contract, start asap, interviewing asap.

Vaco is conducting a confidential search for a Sr. Insurance Accountant on behalf of our client.
This role is hybrid, based in the Bridgewater, NJ area (exact location to be provided to shortlisted candidates). The ideal candidate must have experience in the insurance industry, with a preference for candidates with reinsurance expertise. This is an urgent opportunity requiring immediate interviews and start dates.

Key Details:

  • Location: Hybrid, Bridgewater, NJ area (local candidates preferred within driving distance of Somerset County, NJ).
  • Compensation: $50-$70/hr (W2 only). Will work as hourly consultant for Vaco Staffing. 6+ month contract position, potential to extend, potential for conversion.
  • Employment Type: No C2C, 1099, or sponsorship options available now or in the future.
  • Availability: Immediate.
Role Responsibilities

The Sr. Insurance Accountant will be responsible for daily accounting activities focusing on loss transactions. Core responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing daily loss funding transactions and AP voucher certification.
  • Assisting with journal entries and contributing to monthly/quarterly closing tasks.
  • Conducting and reviewing account reconciliations and variance analyses related to claim funding.
  • Addressing funding and banking concerns as needed.
  • Managing policy and claim management systems to ensure compliance with guidelines.
  • Supporting quarterly accruals, reclassifications, and adjustment entries.
  • Participating in audits of Third-Party Administrators (TPAs).
  • Verifying the currency of TPA documentation and insurance certificates.
  • Completing special accounting and reporting projects as required.
  • Analyzing and navigating large Excel datasets with precision.
  • Communicating effectively with TPA contacts and escalating noncompliance to management.
  • Collaborating with external and internal auditors to maintain compliance with procedural controls.
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements alongside finance, IT, and operational teams.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in accounting or finance, with strong reconciliation expertise.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (minimum 5 years; Access experience is a plus).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated, with strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capacity to quickly adapt to new tasks with minimal supervision.
