Certified Respiratory Therapist

Allen Hospital

Full-time; Nights

$10,000 sign-on bonus for eligible applicants

Performs various therapy modalities to patients as ordered by the physician or based on an approved protocol for the administration of oxygen, aerosol, or bronchodilator medications. Manage ventilators and other diagnostic or monitoring devices. Keeps appropriate clinical and clerical patient records. Performs patient assessment and education. Participates in staff education and supervision as necessary. Supervises equipment and departmental supply maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.


Responsibilities
  • Administration of oxygen, respiratory medicines, bronchial hygiene, RCAT (Respiratory care and treatment protocol), and collection of blood for arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis for all ages as ordered by provider.
  • Maintenance of invasive and non-invasive ventilators. Assists in airway management for all ages
  • Assistance with cardiac stress testing, bronchoscopy and specimens from procedure with privileged provider supervision.
  • Performing EKG's and bedside monitoring of patients vital signs as ordered by provider, and assessment of the respiratory system for all ages.
  • Ability to do pulmonary function testing with proper training.
  • Responds to all Medical Emergency, Rapid Response, MET, STEMI and Trauma calls.
  • Must travel to patients on various nursing units.
  • Emergent, urgent or CPR situation intubation and airway management with initial and ongoing competency, overseen by anesthesia.
  • Education of respiratory students and Nursing on respiratory related matters.

Qualifications
  • Associates degree in respiratory therapy.
  • 1 year experience preferred.
  • Licensed in the state of Iowa as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with the NBRC at time of hire. Maintains Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with the NBRC preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, read, writes, comprehends and speaks English.
