Job Purpose
Lead the development of engineering solutions and deliver early planning and engineering solutions with agility and cost competitiveness across Product, Process and Tooling to improve North America Stamping manufacturing characteristics and achieve design intent. Manage multiple project DE lead and Person-In-Charge (PIC) responsibilities simultaneously and oversee and develop other engineers.
Key Accountabilities
- Leads advance Body Frame Stamping product feasibility from styling sketch through 1st drawing issue for New Model Body in White construction. Creates part data proposals, tool process plan specification and rough layout using CAE simulation and CAD. Reports technical criteria to Category Technical Expert and New Model Project Leadership.
- Conceives and leads the development of new model stamping tooling specifications/process plan from 1st drawing to Die GO. Provide direct technical guidance and oversight to downstream customers to ensure successful design and production deliverables are met. Monitors design change through drawing maturation.
- Completes checks for manufacturing stamping new model equipment verification check list and drawing maturation requirements.
- Body Frame Stamping tooling technical expertise across all Honda automotive factories. Teaches expertise to team and supports cross functional collaboration across HDMA business units. Prepares and presents presentations on specific technical challenges driving value added engineering solutions.
- Lead complex manufacturing category problem analysis, determine root causes, recommend corrective action, and consults on SAP(Specific Action Plan) in the new model development.
- Lead business plan improvement activity. Lead team activity through SAP and milestone achievements. Report results to Business Unit management.
- Provide mentoring, coaching, and guidance to less experienced engineers, and support Group Leader with managerial responsibilities as needed
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Minimum Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g. Mechanical or Industrial) or equivalent related experience.
- Minimum Experience
- 8+ years relevant full-time engineering experience or equivalent, expert knowledge of equipment/tool new model, expert knowledge of automotive production facilities.
- Other Job-Specific Skills
- Problem solving analysis and breakdown to root cause.
- Expert knowledge of Honda new model development and manufacturing.
- Expert knowledge of automotive sheet metal forming.
- Supervisory experience. Ability to lead/manage a diverse workforce.
- MS Office, CATIA V5, CATIA V6, and AutoForm proficient
Workstyle
- 10% Travel, 5 to 10 hours of OT per week
- Primarily office environment, with capability to work on the production floor and tooling production to understand equipment and plant perspectives
