Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Maternal & Child Health at UNC Gillings is the only freestanding MCH department in the country and is globally recognized for leadership, innovation, and commitment to improving population health. Further information about the department can be found at www.sph.unc.edu/mch. Departmental faculty lead research programs, engage with multiple interdisciplinary research centers and programs, and work with a variety of maternal and child health populations. Opportunities exist to collaborate on new and ongoing studies with faculty in MCH Centers, across the Gillings School of Global Public Health, and at UNC more broadly. Relevant UNC organizations include the School of Medicine, School of Social Work, and institutes include the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute (FPG), The Carolina Population Center (CPC), and the Sheps Center for Health Services Research. Faculty also engage in collaborations across the state, nation, and globally. |
Position Summary |
The Department of Maternal & Child Health (MCH) in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks to hire one open rank tenure-track faculty member. MCH is an interdisciplinary field and spans traditional public health disciplines such as epidemiology, health policy, health behavior, along with practice-oriented approaches and content areas related to the health of women, children, adolescents, and related to sexual and reproductive health. Outstanding candidates will have expertise applying interdisciplinary methods to the study of health among many different populations. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work aligns with a broad view of MCH, complements implementation science and community-engaged research, and who bring expertise in applying technology-based approaches to improve health outcomes. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an independently funded research program, teach and mentor graduate students at the master's and doctoral levels, provide academic advising, and foster partnerships within the department, across the Gillings School, and with community and global partners. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
A doctoral degree (e.g. PhD, DrPH, ScD, or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g., public health, maternal and child health, epidemiology, health behavior, health policy, implementation science). |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor must demonstrate strong potential to become independent investigator, teacher, and mentor. Candidates for the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor must have a strong record of scholarship, including substantial experience as a principal investigator and key collaborator on research, a funded research program, and a strong record of teaching and mentoring graduate students. |

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
