Purpose Under general supervision provide support for Core functions by performing routine lab procedures in the Electron Microscopy Core in the Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy. Primary Functions * Perform routine processing of tissue and cell samples for electron microscopy including resin embedding, sectioning, and staining. * Make and supply processing chemicals to research areas as needed. * Assist with record keeping for studies performed including sample type, sample intake date and researchers. * Maintain supplies and equipment used in the Core. * Carry out assigned duties for ordering and maintaining supply of inventories. * Operate and maintain a variety of lab equipment such as tissue processor, ovens, ultramicrotomes. * Independently operate the electron microscope for imaging of research samples. * Oversee daily lab operation in the absence of the supervisor or core director. * Maintain and organize accreditation documents including periodic updates and amendments. * Assist in organizing and placing lab supplies and equipment. Knowledge - Skills - Abilities Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management in compliance with CAP regulations. Knowledge of sample fixation, embedding, ultrathin and semi-thin sectioning for microscopy. Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.
