The Public Reporting Business Analyst is a critical member of the team responsible for Fred Hutch's strategic priority to be a top performer in national ratings and rankings. The incumbent performs patient chart reviews, collects, manages, and submits patient data in prescribed formats to support quality systems reporting for internal use as well as external reporting to governmental, regulatory, payer, and benchmarking programs.

The Public Reporting Business Analyst supports quality improvement project analyses such as identifying trends in key quality metrics driven by review of medical record data elements. This role supports the development of reports for dissemination to appropriate workgroups and clinical leadership. This role assists in ensuring data integrity and harvest according to acceptable industry definitions/specifications. This role also acts as a key member of quality improvement activities that require chart review and abstraction activities and serves as an educational resource for other members of the team.



Responsibilities

    Collects, organizes, and analyzes data obtained from concurrent and retrospective patient chart review for use in both internal and external purposes.
  • Enters abstracted data into standard data collection tools in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Identifies and validates accurate, consistent, and timely information abstracted and reported from various medical records, electronic files, and reports.
  • Assesses gaps, errors, and/or unanticipated results in data. Escalates issues and/or errors when appropriate.
  • Summarizes data, identifies trends, and performs basic statistical analysis.
  • Builds reports using external comparative databases, including but not limited to Vizient clinical database, US News Hospital Data Insights.
  • In collaboration with Public Reporting Program Manager, develops reports for dissemination to appropriate committees and clinical leadership.
  • Collaborates with providers across a variety of disciplines/specialties to review data, validate results, create relevant reports, and submit recommendations to external agencies.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for external agency data tools and definitions
  • Participate in and help inform quality improvement initiatives based on the data collected.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience reading and interpreting clinical documentation and medical terminology with ability to navigate electronic medical records.
  • Organizational skills with a high attention to detail and commitment to accuracy is vital.
  • Able to present information in a clear and concise manner, tailored to various audiences.
  • Proven ability to analyze data with basic statistical methods (i.e. sample sizes, mean, median, standard deviation, etc.)

Preferred:

  • Previous experience working in oncology, an academic medical center, or in a multi-site healthcare system.
  • Experience in clinical outcomes and benchmarking principles, managing large data sets, and data management for governmental, regulatory, or payer programs.
  • Experience with public ratings and rankings programs including but not limited to Vizient, US News and World Report, CMS stars, etc.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality or other relevant certification.
  • Working knowledge of Epic Electronic Medical Record.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $34.40 to $51.60 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
