Due to continued growth, we have an opportunity for a Metallurgical Engineer located at our manufacturing facility in Racine, WI.


This position is a hands-on Metallurgist who is the primary resource for metallurgical issues at Twin Disc. The individual will review metallurgical properties and related processes to determine adequacy with regards to product design and application and will drive improvement as needed. The individual will also perform Quality Engineering tasks not specifically related to metallurgy; these will include system and process audits, improvement of manufacturing processes and controls, and problem solving as needed. The split between tasks directly related to metallurgy and tasks related to the other Quality Engineering aspects will be roughly 70/30 and each is equally important.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy or a related science with a background or emphasis in metallurgy
  • 3 + years of metallurgy support experience in a precision machining environment
  • Lean/Six Sigma Certification preferred


Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of Products


Communication Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to work with people at all levels of the organization


Technical Requirements:

  • Experience and operational knowledge of equipment used for metallurgical analysis including hardness/micro-hardness and tensile testers, X-ray fluorescence spectrometer, cut/mount/polish equipment, and microphotography equipment.


Work Environment:

  • Work location is Racine, Wisconsin


Specialized Knowledge:

  • Extensive knowledge of current industry standards and practices for steel, stainless steel, iron and aluminum including wrought stock, casting and forgings
  • Extensive knowledge of current industry standards and practices for plating, heat treat, welding and shot peen
  • Ability to cross reference all foreign material standards
