Minimum:
High school diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred:
High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of related agriculture, farming, plant production or soil management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
2 years' experience working (hands-on) in agricultural production including vegetable production and at least 1 years' (hands-on) experience with soils, field work, greenhouse and/or organic production systems are preferred including office experience, literature search, purchasing, documentations, event organization.
Some college degree preferred.
Knowledge of crop production, soil health, cover crops, agroforestry, land management and heirs property. Experience collecting and inputting data (i.e. crop yields in excel and word file.).
Experience in preparing for field days, tours and other on-farm educational events.
Knowledge of how to successfully grow and harvest plants in the field and how to manage plants. Understanding of sustainable, climate-smart and organic production.
Ability to use and maintain basic horticulture farm equipment (tractors and implements as well as hand tools) as well as basic computer software for recordkeeping. Must be able to lift at least 50 lb. and work in inclement weather |

Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position |
This full-time Temporary Program Coordinator or Extension Technician (11 months) - Agriculture and Natural Resource Management will support on-farm demonstrations, fieldwork, educational training, and events related to climate-smart agriculture and heirs property programming. The coordinator will provide technical, hands-on support for demonstration and educational programs involving the North Carolina A&T State University Cooperative Extension Farm Units, especially the Agriculture and Natural Resources Unit
This role involves assisting with workshops, outreach events, and providing overall programmatic support to ensure effective implementation and stakeholder engagement for these initiatives. The Program Assistant is responsible to work and report under the leadership of Dr. Biswanath Dari (the Extension Specialist for Natural Resource Management) at the Agricultural and Natural Resources (
ANR) Unit.
Duties include crop establishment and maintenance; harvesting/post-harvest handling of crops; soil and plant tissue sample collections, processing, submission to lab and some basic analyses. |
