Job Description:

Saab, Inc. is seeking a Business Development Director (U.S. Air Force/U.S. Space Force/Air National Guard) and Capture Excellence to be responsible for the profitable growth of its U.S. and Swedish Defense businesses through identification of new business opportunities and customers. You will build and maintain senior decision maker relationships and be responsible for over-the-horizon identification, evaluation, shaping, and qualification of new business opportunities in the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Space Force, and Air National Guard. You will be responsible for developing partnerships and alliances with other stakeholders, including companies and government liaisons, to qualify and mature opportunities. The Business Development Director will support Saab businesses through customer engagement in addition to monitoring competitive activity, identifying customer needs, and positioning/shaping Saab solutions to hand off to the appropriate capture team(s).

Saab, Inc. is focused on growth in Program of Record (PoR) franchise opportunities through organic US and partnered (US & Sweden) captures. As Saab, Inc. grows, we are prioritizing PoR opportunities for dedicated corporate resourcing and capture support. Capture Excellence Director will oversee Saab Inc Campaigns and Priority Captures bringing proven capture process and best practices to increase probability of win for priority programs. You will work closely with BD campaign and capture leads through close collaboration with Division Marketing & Sales Leadership focusing corporate resources on priority pursuits. This may be a hybrid position with primary duties located in the Washington, D.C. region, however with customer responsibilities that span continental US and its' territories. This role will report to the Saab Inc. VP of Business Development.

Major responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain and grow new and existing customer relationships with the customer community (Acquisition stakeholders, Systems Commands, Resource Sponsors, Operational and Administrative Commanders, and Saab global business development colleagues).

  • Implement and lead the Saab, Inc Capture Excellence initiative to provide world-class results harnessing corporate resources and best practices supporting Saab Priority Win program pursuits.

  • Prepare and conduct business development generated, gate reviews (Saab Win Business Process) prior to hand off to Marketing Sales team members. Support Marketing & Sales generated gate reviews through the opportunity acquisition process.

  • Develop and maintain excellent relations across the Aerospace and Defense (A&D) Market. Ensure continuing customer relations and an effective flow of information to deliver business objectives.

  • Coordinate with U.S. DoD acquisition, system commands, and program offices to identify mission needs, capabilities, and requirements in support of technical adoption and concept of operations, partnering to develop system solutions.

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of Saab products within the portfolio and work with Saab affiliates (Saab AB, Saab Inc., and business unit leads) to identify opportunities to capture U.S. market share.

  • Coordinate and conduct all aspects of business development and capture management following business acquisition processes and preparing products for the capture of major pursuits within the military and commercial markets.

  • Work autonomously to influence and partner with internal and external stakeholders.

  • This position may require up to 40% of travel away from local office throughout the year.

Compensation Range: $238,200-$321,600

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:
  • Retired U.S. Air Force Senior Military (O5/O6) (Operational/Acquisition) with relevant operational military experience.

  • 15+ years of Business Development and Capture in defense industry with significant large capture campaign leadership experience.

  • Knowledge and experience in Federal budgeting (PPBE), DoD acquisition process, and government procurement policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated experience in both strategic level business planning, and tactical profit and loss business development including strategy, roadmap development, investment planning/execution, and opportunity pipeline management.

  • Must possess outstanding leadership, communication, strategic planning, end execution skills.

  • Knowledge of DoD POM process and Defense budgets.

  • Advanced Degree in Business, Engineering, or Defense War College National Strategy.

  • Established customer credentials as a former warfighter recognized as an industrial base liaison and A&D business development professional.

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Secret level clearance.

  • Experience with Foreign Military Sales.

  • Experience working with NATO a plus.

Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
