The Atmospheric, Oceanic and Earth Sciences department offers undergraduate degrees in Atmospheric Sciences, Earth Science and Geology, MS degrees in Earth System Science and Climate Science, and a PhD in Climate Dynamics. About the Position:

The Large-scale Dynamics group in the Atmospheric, Oceanic and Earth Sciences is seeking a Scientific Applications Programmer to generate and optimize programs for the analysis of weather and climate data.

Responsibilities:



  • Creates programs and algorithms and develop computational infrastructure resources for organizing and parsing data from large and complex data;
  • Develops and assist with the implementation of visualization and data analysis methods and codes via API and other methods to enable user interaction; and
  • Writes clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices and coding standards.


Required Qualifications:



  • BS or MS degree in atmospheric science, computer science, or related discipline;
  • BS + 2 years of related experience;
  • Proficiency in common software applications and tools, such as Java, Python, Jupyter Notebook, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Git, APIs;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of AWS and Google Colab; and
  • Experience with Unix/Linux environment and high performance computing.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working with NetCDF and GRIB files;
  • Experience with Python Data Visualization; and
  • Experience with GitHub.
