Assistant/Associate/Full Researcher Positions Available

UCSF Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

The various laboratories in the UCSF Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry have Assistant/Associate/Full Researcher Positions available immediately. Title and salary will be commensurate with level of experience.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry includes diverse research in the areas of computational and synthetic chemistry, biophysics, chemical biology, systems and synthetic biology, enabling technologies, and drug discovery. Our department is characterized by a culture of collaboration and innovation in biomedical science.

We seek creative candidates who will assist in performing studies to address the fundamental questions in diverse areas relevant to our Department.

The individual is expected to:



  • Contribute high-quality data for research grants, manuscripts, and scientific presentations.
  • Mentor graduate students, post-doctorate fellows, and junior staff and provide guidance on study design, data analysis, and innovative methodologies.
  • Oversee project progress, coordinate partner efforts, and report outcomes to leadership and funding agencies.
  • Assists in identifying new funding opportunities, coordinating submission of new project proposals, and preparation of manuscripts.
  • Cultivate relationships with academic, industry, and funding partners.


Additional responsibilities may include other lab management-related duties, including but not limited to, lab protocol submission, lab safety, facility inspection, lab database construction and maintenance, lab supply management and other duties as assigned.

This position requires a scientist qualified for independent research at the level of principal investigator and is for the job classification of Professional Researcher. It is not a faculty research position.

Requirements: A doctorate or its equivalent degree. The candidate must have at least one year experience working in a lab and research environment and proven ability to work well as part of a team and have enthusiasm for the practice of science. Candidates must meet the required qualifications at the time of appointment. Candidate's CV and/or cover letter must state qualifications or if pending upon submission.
