Job Summary

University College Academic Peer Advisors (APAs) assist students with developing academic plans and connecting them with campus resources through professional advice and personal experience.

Peer Advisors are paired with a full-time professional advisor and have the following job responsibilities:
Advise first-year students with academic planning
Assist in the delivery of University College programs and services, which may include public presentations
Acquire a general knowledge of University programs, services, and policies, including all applicable academic deadlines
Assist the University College Advising office with answering phone calls, checking in students in the reception area, scheduling appointments for advising staff, and providing timely and accurate information to appropriate University offices

Dates of employment:
August 14, 2025-May 8, 2026 (Could include University breaks)
Optional summer availability from May 19-August 13, 2025 (Dependent on office needs for Preview 2025)

Pay Rate

$15.00/hour


Required Qualifications

Current undergraduate students only
Minimum GPA: 2.75
Minimum 1-year commitment
Available for mandatory pre-semester training on August 14, 2025 & August 15, 2025.
Available for mandatory weekly training throughout each semester on Thursdays from 8:00am - 8:50am


Work Hours

8:00am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday

Important Information for Applicants

This position is subject to a criminal background investigation and if applicable, an employment history review, based on University Policy 3.1.30 and any offer of employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation and/or an employment history review. Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held.
