PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Tax Organization leadership is committed to training and mentoring team members in a wide range of tax issues, fostering both professional and technical development. This role contributes to Owens Corning's success by performing tax research & developing robust tax forecasting models, preparing comprehensive responses to federal and state audits, supporting domestic planning initiatives aimed at achieving cash tax savings, and assisting with transfer pricing compliance to ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Knowing Our Businesses and their Strategies



  • Build relationships within the Tax organization, cross-functionally, and with key stakeholders; ensure effective contact to remain aligned with functional objectives
  • Understand the strategic direction of the company's businesses and execute functional strategies to support and enhance business results; be knowledgeable of the project work that supports this direction and implications to the business
  • Understands the relationships with our customers and understands what it takes to ensure their success
  • Know what best-in-class Tax organizations do and obtain outside-in market insights to understand and then apply to positively impact Owens Corning



Executing Strategy



  • Federal and State Tax Audits:

    • Execute strategies related to federal and state tax audits by providing detailed analysis and conducting thorough tax research.
    • Support the state income and franchise tax audit process, including timely responses to data requests, tracking information, and updating team leadership on audit status.
    • Assist in defending U.S. federal tax audits by preparing timely responses to IRS informational data requests.


  • Tax Forecasting and Compliance:

    • Develop and maintain forecasting models to adapt to new federal, state, and international tax laws and regulations.
    • Support cash tax savings initiatives by assessing potential opportunities, coordinating with third-party advisors, and contributing to execution and implementation.


  • Transfer Pricing:

    • Analyze global intercompany transactions and prepare contemporaneous documentation in accordance with transfer pricing guidelines.
    • Support transfer pricing benchmarking studies to determine arm's length pricing for intercompany transactions.


  • Communication and Special Projects:

    • Communicate tax positions and developments effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Provide support on special projects and other income tax functions as needed, including federal and state income tax compliance and quarterly/annual income tax provisions.


  • Process Improvement:

    • Identify and coordinate the implementation of process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the tax function.





Supporting the Tax Function



  • Inspires teamwork across staff functions and other business groups to maximize the performance of the Tax function
  • Communicates effectively with global finance and tax leaders to increase the teamwork across the finance function; encourage team members to communicate new ideas or processes to enhance all aspects of the Tax function

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications



  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related area required; CPA certification preferred
  • At least 2 years relevant tax / public accounting experience required
  • Corporate federal income tax and/or state/local income tax compliance experience required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; advanced Excel preferred
  • Knowledge of compliance and provision software (Corptax and OneSource is desired), tax research software (RIA Checkpoint, CCH, BNA research tools are desired) and/or general ledger software (SAP desired)
