Job Purpose

The Market Quality Technical Specialist primary role is to support Marine Training course creation and to provide support and Quality Inspection technical expertise for all Power Sports and Products product lines. The Market Quality Technical Specialist expertise is critical for accurate and timely Marine training content design and implementation, as this input will directly impact dealer efficiency, profitability and ultimately attract and retain new technicians into the marine technician career field. Quality inspection expertise will ensure timely receipt and processing of Quality Inspection components and assemblies. Development of a resource management program will create efficiency in warehouse and shop operations for all three product lines.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate closely with technical writer(s) to provide Marine service and maintenance subject matter expertise enabling the design and development of Marine Trainingcourse content for Honda Marine Technical School Students and Honda Marine Dealer Technicians; areas of advice for technical writers includes but is not limited to assisting with practical hands-on lab design/construction and course objective creation.
  • Support Quality Inspection, Warranty, and Customer Relations activities for Marine and Power Equipment divisions through parts receipt and systems tear-down, inspection/analysis, documentation, cataloguing, repair and storage.
  • Develop and implement maintenance shop asset and resource management program forall Power Sports and Productsand organize maintenance shops areas to promote best practices forresource/asset preservation and utilization.
  • Review existing Marine training course materials and identify opportunities to reviseand/or reorganize content for current or future courses.
  • Provide training course testing feedback to implement necessary training and service publications changes to refine final drafts for best technician comprehension.
  • Video talent for Honda Marine, Power Sports and Power Equipment service, maintenance, and training videos to demonstrate proper technique and procedures tosupplement training objectives, promote product sales.
  • Support boat shows, photoshoots and OEM/dealer product previews through rigging,trailering and operating Honda products.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 to 2years of outboard, powersports, or small engine maintenance and repair experience.
  • Outboard Master Technician certification, or Master Technician certification in Honda Power Sports and/or Honda Power Equipment product lines is an advantage.
  • Technical Instruction and/or instructional course content development experience is an advantage.
  • Experience building/designing classroom lab engine simulators, electrical circuit testing boards or rigging stations is an advantage.
  • Experience rigging mechanical and drive-by-wire systems; hanging outboard motors is helpful.
  • Experience with outboard crating and un-crating procedures is helpful.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings (electrical/mechanical}, datasheets and written work instructions.
  • Ability to tow up to 6500 pounds/32 feet long trailered boat or equivalent equipment.
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural environment in which English is not the primary language for some teammates.
  • Ability to drive a forklift.

Working Conditions

  • Working time is daily, 8:30am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday, in office, warehouse and shop environments.
  • Approximately 70% of the technician's time is hands-on, standing while performing work at a shop table or free-standing equipment.
  • Approximately 30% of the technician's time is sitting or standing while working at the computer, including (desktop, laptop, screens, keyboards, mouse, printers, peripheral devices, office equipment, etc.).
  • The associate must be comfortable and able to work in a warehouse and shop environment to conduct product quality investigations.
  • The associate will be required to use hand tools and power tools, as well as being able to move, operate, handle, disassemble and reassemble boxed and unboxed power equipment and other mechanical devices in the performance of their job function.
  • Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Travel up to 25% to support Quality Inspection, Technical Training and Sales/Marketing Activities.
