About the Job
The Assistant Superintendent - Trades will be responsible to play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and successful completion of construction projects. The Assistant Trades Superintendent will collaborate closely with senior trades superintendents and project managers to ensure the successful completion of construction projects. This role involves supervising tradespeople, coordinating work activities, managing resources, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction trades, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to lead and motivate a team.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities Supervision & Coordination
Supervise tradespeople and as required workers on-site. Coordinate daily work activities, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and according to project schedules. Collaborate with others to ensure seamless integration of various construction activities.
Quality & Safety
Enforce quality standards and specifications, conducting regular inspections to ensure workmanship meets project requirements. Implement and enforce safety protocols and guidelines, promoting a culture of safety among team members. Conduct regular safety meetings and toolbox talks, addressing potential hazards and promoting safe work practices.
Resource Management
Manage and allocate resources, including labor, equipment, and materials, effectively to optimize productivity. Coordinate deliveries and schedules with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure timely availability of materials and equipment. Monitor inventory levels and report shortages or excesses to the appropriate stakeholders.
Communication
Maintain open and clear communication channels with tradespeople, subcontractors, project managers, and other stakeholders. Report progress, issues, and concerns to senior trades superintendents and project managers in a timely and accurate manner. Address conflicts and resolve issues among team members, promoting a positive and collaborative work environment.
Documentation
Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including work performed, materials used, and labor hours. Prepare regular reports on project progress, highlighting achievements and addressing challenges. Assist in the preparation of project documentation, such as as-built drawings and project closeout reports.
Non-essential Functions & Responsibilities
Education, Work Experience, & Physical Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certifications in construction management or related fields are advantageous. Extensive experience in construction trades, with a strong understanding of construction methods and techniques. Proven leadership skills and the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively. Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. Knowledge of construction safety regulations and best practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software. Several years of hands-on experience in construction trades, with a track record of progressively increasing responsibilities. Previous experience in a supervisory or lead role within the construction industry is highly desirable.
