The Levy Group of Companies is seeking a Payroll Specialist to work at our Corporate Headquarters in Dearborn, MI. The Payroll Specialist performs advance accounting and payroll functions requiring independent judgment and specialized knowledge.

Responsibilities
The Payroll Specialist will:

  • Maintain payroll information, directing the collection, calculation, and entering of data into ADP Workforce Now
  • Utilize ADP Workforce Now to assist with the calculations of biweekly and weekly payroll processing ensuring that the payroll is calculating as expected and in compliance with all federal and state laws, rules, and regulations, withholding rates, reporting needs, and changes within the company
  • Establish system controls and collaborate with Human Resources and IT to modify and adapt ADP system set up and processing methods
  • Update payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, benefit coverage, union dues, other deductions, and taxes
  • Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, disability, and nontaxable wages
  • Assist with preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.) for management
  • Receive and scan all third party garnishments to garnishment processor
  • Answer employee questions regarding payroll when they call or email the payroll department
  • Assist with maintenance of payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures
  • Maintain employee privacy and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential
  • Process reports for workers compensation premiums to select state programs
  • Assist in the timely completion of all payroll tax reporting requirements and the issuance of W-2s
  • Respond to all payroll audit requests
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; participating in professional societies
  • Identify opportunities to improve the payroll process
  • Upload benefit elections, changes and other deductions on a weekly basis
  • Add third party sick to employee records and enters other balance adjustments to reconcile employee's payroll for W2 purposes
  • Act as a back-up to Payroll Administrator
  • Perform special projects, analysis and other duties as assigned by supervisor



Skills

The ideal candidate will have:



  • Ability to Lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Associate's degree in accounting or business, or equivalent experience
  • APA FPC Fundamental Payroll Certification preferred but not required
  • Minimum of three years advanced payroll processing
  • Experience working with payroll in union environment
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Microsoft Outlook)
  • Knowledge of Oracle payroll a plus
  • Must have a strong working knowledge and understanding of ADP Workforce Now
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of Reporting Features.
  • Knowledge of payroll taxes and payroll regulations
  • Advanced knowledge of payroll, payroll law, FLSA and multi-state payroll processing
  • Strong math skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines
  • Strong problem resolution skills-critical thinking and root-cause analysis
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Valid driver's license
