Eastern Area Health Education Center (Eastern
AHEC) is a private, nonprofit educational organization affiliated with East Carolina University (
ECU). The mission of Eastern
AHEC, in accordance with the Statewide
AHEC Program, is to provide and support educational activities and services with a focus on primary care in rural communities and those with less access to resources to recruit, train, and retain the workforce needed to create a healthy North Carolina. Our Vision is that every North Carolinian is healthy and supported by an appropriate and well-trained health workforce that reflects the communities it serves.
AHEC programs and services are targeted toward:
- Increasing the supply of healthcare providers in North Carolina.
- Increasing the representation of minorities and disadvantaged populations in all health disciplines.
- Improving the distribution and retention of health care providers, with a special emphasis on primary care and prevention.
- Enhancing the quality of care and improving health care outcomes.
- Addressing the health needs of underserved communities and populations.
Eastern
AHEC functions in close collaboration with East Carolina University and with the other college and university programs in Nursing, Allied Health, Public Health, Medicine, Behavioral Health, and Pharmacy. Eastern
AHEC, with offices in Greenville and Elizabeth City, serves 23 counties in the eastern part of the state and is one of nine
AHEC centers located in North Carolina. Governance is by a Board of Directors with representation from
ECU, regional healthcare institutions, the community at large, and the community college system.
The administrative structure of Eastern
AHEC consists of an Executive Director and a Chief Administrative Officer. In addition to the administrative leaders, Eastern
AHEC has Directors for the following departments: Continuing Medical, Dental, and Pharmacy Education, Educational Support Services, Elizabeth City Office, Fiscal Services, Information & Technology Services, Library Services, Mental Health Education, Nursing and Allied Health Education, Pharmacy Education, Practice Support Center, Student Services. |
Job Duties |
Strategy Development and Implementation: 30%
- With support from EAHEC leadership and the state-level Regional Support Team and Executive Leadership, develop and execute a comprehensive regional TPM strategy for healthcare system employers, leveraging TPM data-driven insights to identify and address talent gaps, anticipate future workforce needs, and align with overall business objectives.
- Collaborate with senior leadership across multiple public and private organizations to develop and implement sustainable strategic talent pipeline solutions that close the people and skills gap for critical roles identified via the TPM process.
Talent Pipeline Analysis and Management: 30%
- Analyze and interpret data from the TPM program to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement in the talent pipeline across the entire regional healthcare ecosystem.
- Establish and maintain ROI-focused partnerships among healthcare employers and educational institutions to build a robust talent ecosystem and ensure a continuous supply of skilled professionals for healthcare system employers.
- Develop and implement sustainable strategic talent pipeline solutions that close the people and skills gap for critical roles identified via the TPM process.
Workforce Development and Training: 20%
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners, in education and the employment sectors, to design and implement training programs that address current and future skill needs for multiple healthcare organizations.
- Monitor the effectiveness of training programs and make data-driven recommendations for improvements, ensuring alignment with industry trends and best practices.
Change Management and Communication: 10%
- Lead change management initiatives related to regional TPM solution implementation, ensuring effective communication, stakeholder buy-in, and successful adoption of new processes and strategies across multiple healthcare employers.
- Regularly update senior leadership from various organizations on the progress of TPM initiatives, presenting data-driven insights and recommendations to support decision-making.
- Work with the Regional Support Team and Executive Leadership to identify and create new or alternative funding models for workforce pipelines
Continuous Improvement and Innovation: 10%
- Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of regional TPM initiatives, making data-driven adjustments as needed to optimize outcomes for healthcare system employers.
- Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in healthcare talent management, incorporating innovative approaches into the region's TPM strategy.

Minimum Education/Experience |
- Master's degree and 3 or more years of experience required; or will accept a bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. One degree must be in Business Administration, Human Resources, Health care Management, Political Science, or a related field. Years of experience must be a minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in human resources, talent management, workforce development, nonprofit leadership, or education leadership. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
- Experience designing and implementing successful strategies that require change management and stakeholder engagement
- Experience in analyzing complex data and making data-driven decisions.
- Experience with project management, managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills
