About the Role: We're looking for a Staff Data Scientist to join our team, supporting our Platform Product group. In this role, you'll deliver actionable insights to help Planet better understand our customers. You'll work closely with leadership across the company to understand and support business needs, and play a crucial role in building a culture of measurement that will be directly reflected in the product roadmap. You'll also collaborate directly with data/analytics engineers to design data sources and products to best suit your and Planet's needs. As the most senior individual contributor (IC) on Planet's Data team, you'll have the opportunity to mentor more junior data scientists and analysts, and foundationally influence data science best practices as we branch further into applied models, A/B testing, and machine learning. This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States. Impact You'll Own: Driving a culture of measurement within our Platform Product group by understanding the vision of our Platform Product team and identifying the key data insights needed to drive that vision and measure success Owning the relationship with cross-functional partners across product, engineering, and commercial teams; translating their requirements into a prioritized data science roadmap Designing, implementing and delivering clear analyses of customer behavior with actionable recommendations. Effectively communicating results and advocating for recommendations to a broad audience with varying degrees of data literacy Acting as the technical leader for the data science and analytics arm of the Data team, including developing best practices for statistical analysis and complex modelling What You Bring: 12+ years of relevant experience Experience working independently with product, engineering and/or business leadership to identify and meet data science needs, leveraging data sourced from internal and 3rd party sources Excellent business acumen and the ability to translate business asks into technical analyses and effectively communicate out the results Experience mentoring more junior data ICs Excellent SQL and Python skills Experience with cloud computing platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred) Experience building, maintaining & improving productionized analyses, models or algorithms Data warehousing/modelling familiarity sufficient to unblock yourself when presented with a novel data source What Makes You Stand Out: Passion for building data-driven culture Experience working with geospatial datasets Experience working with pipelines built in dbt, and/or with self-service reporting tools like Looker or Omni #LI-REMOTE *Benefits While Working at Planet:** Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision plans Health Savings Account (HSA) with a company contribution Generous Paid Time Off in addition to holidays and company-wide days off 16 Weeks of Paid Parental Leave Remote-friendly work environment Wellness Program and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Home Office Reimbursement Monthly Phone and Internet Reimbursement Tuition Reimbursement and access to LinkedIn Learning Equity Commuter Benefits (if local to an office) Volunteering Paid Time Off These offerings are dependent on employment type and geographical location, based upon applicable law or company policy Compensation:* The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is listed below. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (bonus and equity). The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location. The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only.
