Overview

This position has a progression.

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

Performs as a skilled operator of all fired equipment utilized in the manufacture of Synthetic Natural Gas and by-products following specific policies/procedures/standards.



Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    As a member of a shift with operators of other processing equipment, operates fired equipment and all associated equipment (such as heat exchangers, pumps, etc), instruments, switches and levers: Starts up, observes, monitors, tends to, shuts off and isolates all such equipment.
  1. Responsible for maintaining steam pressures, temperature and flows, controlled by fired equipment, within prescribed limits: manipulates pertinent controls and/or adjusts boiler blow-down controls as directed by the Chemist or Shift Supervisor. Reports any abnormal temperatures, pressures or flow conditions to the Process Control Operator and/or Shift Supervisor.
  2. Trouble shoots or performs preventative maintenance on fired equipment assigned to include operability testing and non-complex diagnostic testing; makes adjustments and repairs to equipment as qualified and authorized, such as changing pressure gauges, sight glasses, performing lubrication, cleaning burners, etc. Implements all preventative maintenance actions according to schedule. Performs emergency repairs as required.
  3. Monitors and logs readings and preventative maintenance actions taken on applicable company forms or inputs data into software using PC terminal following established procedures; prepares reports as required.
  4. Maintains work area, equipment and all control devices in a safe, orderly and clean condition and/or directs lesser grades to perform housekeeping duties and performs same in control room.
  5. Works in a safe and responsible manner. Complies with and assures that all safety rules, regulations and practices in effect and established/adopted by the Company are observed/followed and that proper safety signs/warning devices are working correctly and in place according to acceptable safety rules/standards. Promotes safety and safe work habits to include the reporting to appropriate. Company management, and rectifying, as qualified, any unsafe conditions or act. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis.
  6. Provides directions and instructions to trainees assigned to the unit and monitors/records their in
    progress/completed work.
  7. Operates scissors lift as directed.
  8. Perfoms related work as required and/or directed: e.g. maintains or fills out surveys, checklists,
    inventories and journals as necessary. Monitors maintenance activities and prepares work orders as instructed.


Qualifications

Required Education and/or Work Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalency, with satisfactory completion of course work in physics and chemistry.
  • Technical schooling in an electrical and/or mechanical operation or trade preferred.
  • Qualified in CPR/AED and First Aid.
  • At least three years of successful and progressive experience in a gas manufacturing plant or based on management's assessment, the successful completion of in-plant training program.
  • Qualified and proficient in all phases of the work described including a good working knowledge and understanding of boilers, superheaters, exchangers, pumps, compressors, furnaces and reactors; proven expertise to effectively maintain and/or repair non-complex equipment problems.
  • Possesses a very good knowledge of all pertinent codes, regulations, standards, practices and safety rules/regulations/practices in addition to departmental operating rules and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, orally and in writing.
  • Qualified in operation of scissors lift. Must have a good safety record; ability to use computer.
