Description
POSITION: Farm & Horticulture Lead Instructor

DEPARTMENT: Education- Build Trybe

Starting Salary: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour

(Starting salary depends on education and experience)

RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is to be a farming lead and vocational guide for Cornerstones of Care youth. Team member will be responsible for providing regular classes and workshops for the youth, will run pre-apprenticeships, and maintain a productive farm site and orchard. Through classes and workshops, they will teach life skills, vocational skills, and healthy living basics with a heavy emphasis on workforce development. Team member will be expected to successfully run an outdoor education site, manage apprentices, and create and execute farm plans.

This position exists to help youth learn valuable trade skills that can help them find employment and job opportunities while learning life skills and healthy living habits to be successful adults. This position will work with the rest of the program to train and equip the youth for future employment to the best of our abilities. They will also:



  1. Teach classes, workshops, and run pre-apprenticeships
  2. Maintain and run outdoor learning spaces.
  3. Successfully grow, process, and deliver produce and product.
  4. Assist with volunteers, mentors, and other community partners connecting with farm site and kitchens
  5. Provide and execute farm plans


REQUIREMENTS:





    • High School Diploma is required (preferred candidate would have a Bachelor's degree)
    • Two years of farm/horticulture experience or equivalent schooling
    • Two years of working in a youth guide, instructor, or teaching capacity or equivalent schooling




QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified experience includes two years of trade experience, two years of working in a youth guide, instructor, or teaching capacity, experience managing or leading teams, and project managing. Must be at least 21 years of age and pass background check, physical and drug screening. This position also requires a valid driver's license, proof of current vehicle insurance and reliable transportation.

In addition to the above requirements, incumbent must:



  • Complete Sanctuary training in a timely manner;
  • Have a valid driver's license and proof of current vehicle insurance;
  • Follow all agency policies;
  • Be able to pass State Abuse, Neglect and criminal background checks;
  • Be able to carry out the essential functions of the position with, or without, accommodation.
  • Perform all job duties in a manner which demonstrates a commitment to Sanctuary values and practices.
  • Demonstrate awareness and understanding of cultural and ethnic diversity of clients, team members, and other community partners.


This is an active and physically demanding job. Applicant ideally has the ability to:





    • Lift and move 30 lbs.
    • Able to perform repetitive tasks involving weight.
    • Able to work actively for 8-hour period.
    • Work in outside in extreme temperatures and conditions.
    • Work with various tools, products and chemicals used on the farm.
    • Physical agility to bend, stoop, lift, twist, and kneel.
