  • UT Health Tyler, the flagship hospital of the system, has 502 licensed beds specializing in advanced acute care medicine. Our hospital includes a 24-hour ER with Level 1 trauma center, a comprehensive stroke center, more than 500 physicians and a full complement of subspecialty groups.

Responsibilities

  • This position functions under the direction of the Market Director of Infection Prevention as a member of Infection Prevention Department and works with the full time Infection Preventionists.
  • The PRN Infection Preventionist assists in the development and coordination of the Infection Prevention and Control Program throughout the facility in conjunction with the Infection Prevention Team, Market Director of Infection Prevention, and the Corporate Infection Prevention and Control council.
  • The IP assists the Infection Prevention Team and the Market Director of Infection Prevention to ensure the Infection Prevention and Control Program is in compliance with all regulatory reporting requirements including local, state, and federal requirements.
  • The IP is responsible for identifying, investigating, monitoring, and reporting healthcare-associated infections.
  • The IP collaborates with teams and individuals to create infection prevention strategies, provide feedback, and sustain infection prevention strategies by researching appropriate policies/procedures, using current epidemiologic principles, performing infection related surveillance for healthcare associated infections, and helping investigate outbreaks.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Clinical Laboratory Sciences (Medical Technologist), or successful completion of tertiary education in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, Microbiology or other healthcare related field.

  • Applicant must have experience in Infection Prevention and have a minimum of 2 years of clinical hospital experience, preferably in an acute care setting or 1 years' experience with quality, infection prevention, and/or performance improvement in addition to tertiary education.

  • Experience in data abstraction or use of the electronic medical record required

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Associate-Infection Prevention and Control (a-IPC) recommended within 1 year of hiring to the position preferred.

  • Current certification in infection prevention (CIC) or obtains within 4 years of hiring to position preferred.

  • Current APIC membership highly recommended.
