SUMMARY:

Provides physics expertise as part of collaborative design team to develop product capabilities to meet project timelines. Contributes to project success as Subject Matter Expert in imaging physics, including x-ray generation, detection, and image corrections. REPORTING TO/DEPARTMENT: Reports to the Manager of the Imaging Components group in the Imaging Systems functional area of Accuray's Department of Research & Development. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Monitor and represent Imaging Systems in product requirements, project planning, and global industry and regulatory standards
  • Develop and design to top level product requirements to define and achieve specified performance of imaging subsystems
  • Characterize and measure various components of the imaging chain to model, specify, develop and verify the overall performance of the imaging system
  • In conjunction with sub-systems or functions (Source, Detection, Electro-mechanical systems, Reconstruction, other), develop calibration techniques and support tools to meet image quality specifications and metrics
  • Provide design and test documents supporting the functions being developed
  • Participate with the entire Imaging Systems team to develop strategies and design approaches around the production, processing and analysis of images
  • Collaborate in a product development environment to extend existing and introduce new imaging features
  • Support production, service, and sustaining engineering in troubleshooting and correcting anomalies in the imaging chain
  • Present concise designs, reports, and analyses through written and oral reviews
  • Infrequent travel (<10%) may be required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Preferred or Desired:
    • Experience with medical devices or Regulated Product environments
    • Graduate degree in a related area - Physics, Medical Physics, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Image and Signal processing - or equivalent from a group recognized in the field of radiation detection and related technologies
    • Five years of design and development experience in a technical industry (suitable academic experience will be considered)
    • Experience with product development in a Medical Device or Regulated Product environment
    • Experience with imaging device design and image processing (Medical imaging preferred like CT, fluoroscopy, or radiography systems)
    • Background and/or experience in solid state physics related to radiation detectors
  • Required:
  • A minimum of two years of related experience and/or training, in a product development environment; academic or research environment
  • Direct experience in the development of systems across the entire imaging chain including sources (X-ray generators and tubes preferred), detectors, and image corrections for Radiography and CT reconstruction
  • Adequate knowledge of modern development tools (e.g. Matlab, Monte Carlo) for simulation is required
  • Excellent written, verbal, and technical communication skills
  • Must be able to work in a multi-functional team environment
