Position description

Specialist - Gestwicki Lab

The Gestwicki Laboratory in the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (IND) at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking a Specialist to

work on a drug discovery project for neurodegenerative disease. This individual will be responsible for assembling, growing, and maintaining a specialized library of drug-like molecules and screening them against cellular models of disease. The successful candidate will have an advanced degree in chemistry or related fields, with experience in pharmacology and documented success in team-based science.

Required Qualifications:



  • Associate Specialist- A master's degree in chemistry or a closely related field
  • Full Specialist- a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) in chemistry or a closely related field with ten or more years of relevant experience.
  • Strong background in pharmacology.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field with a strong background in pharmacology.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience in team-based science for drug discovery.
  • Knowledge of analytical methods for small molecule characterization.
  • Knowledge of how to store and analyze large amounts of data.
