Overview
Join State Farm as a Data Engineer within our General Departments team, where you will play a crucial role in developing and optimizing our data infrastructure. In this position, you will be responsible for implementing robust backup and recovery solutions for our databases, ensuring data integrity and high availability. You will facilitate seamless data sharing and collaboration across teams by managing access provisioning for data consumers. As the owner of stored procedures, you will focus on improving data processing efficiency and upholding high-quality data standards. Additionally, you will oversee database architecture and clusters, driving optimal data design and management practices, while leveraging your expertise in RDS provisioning to create scalable and efficient database solutions. Responsibilities
- Participates in solution design, taking into consideration risks, mitigations, performance, user experience, testability and reduce technical debt
- Utilizes Data Engineering knowledge necessary to support design, development, testing and execution of technology solutions
- Provides input into overall testing strategy and plan; contributes to testing approach and scenarios for requirements
- Develops solutions on variety of platforms according to business requirements
- Provides technical support to team
- Conducts research and integrate industry best practices into processes and potential solutions
- Participates in the full software development cycle including coding, testing, implementation, support and sunset
- Utilizes agile software development practices, coding, data and testing standards, code reviews, source code management, continuous delivery and software architecture
- Designs, develops, tests and supports software in support of big data objectives
- Possesses an understanding of how technology solutions meet the business outcomes and offers a range of solutions for business partners; understands business current and aspirational needs
- Participates in sprint planning; provides work estimates to deliver product stories; owns development stories
- Completes required coding to satisfy the defined acceptance criteria and deliver desired outcome
- Assists in the development of automated testing and supporting code as necessary to support stories
- Completes required documentation to communicate required information to deployment, maintenance, support and business teams
- Adopts Service Design, where appropriate, through utilization of modularity within architecture to enable continuous delivery
- Considers the application of emerging technology solutions to increase efficiency and effectiveness and a general expectation of continuous innovation
- Resolves problems that result in a decreased time to market; improves quality, enhances flexibility and embraces the solution provider mindset
- Exhibits DevOps mindset where team is accountable for product from inception to sunset
- Participates in open-source communities to help solve technical challenges and contributes back where applicable
Qualifications
- Proficient in Java and experienced with version control systems such as SVN and GIT, ensuring efficient code management and collaboration.
- Experienced with AWS services: RDS, EMR, Glue, Athena, S3, Lambda
- Demonstrated experience within distributed computing systems to design, develop and test scalable applications capable of handling high-volume datasets, ensuring optimal performance and reliability
- Skilled in continuous integration using tools like Jenkins and GitLab Runner, along with build tools like Maven and ANT for streamlined development processes.
- Familiar with application servers including Tomcat and WebSphere (WAS), and adept at utilizing the Spring Source Tool Suite for development.
- Experienced in test automation with Selenium Web Driver and Selenium RC, as well as managing defects using TRAC IT and HP Service Manager.
- Knowledgeable in scripting languages (Groovy, JavaScript, Terraform, Python) and code quality tools (JaCoCo, Checkstyle, PIT, PMD, FindBugs, Sonar) to maintain high coding standards.
