Overview
The USU Eastern (USUE) Head Men's Soccer Coach is responsible for coaching, character development and providing direction to student athletes so they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork while at USUE. Working with and directly under the USUE Director of Athletics, they have the responsibility to:
  • Support student-athlete academic success,
  • Recruit prospective student-athletes following the university and athletic department's mission and student-athlete recruitment procedures
  • Plan and direct the men's soccer team and be an assistant coach to the women's soccer team.

We are actively seeking to fill the position as soon as possible, while remaining flexible to accommodate the preferred start date of exceptional candidates.

Responsibilities
  • Establish a philosophy for the student-athlete that creates high academic standards and positive moral and ethical code of behavior.
  • Work with the athletic staff to ensure that each student-athlete meets the requirements to be eligible under the university and NJCAA guidelines.
  • Support the mission, philosophy and core values of Utah State University Eastern.
  • Coordinating practice planning, skill development, and designing strategies which prepare team for competition.
  • Recruiting and retaining top prospective student-athletes.
  • Adheres to the NJCAA, SWAC and other relevant sports policies and procedures.
  • Organize, plan and execute travel arrangements within an organized and executing travel documentation and records.
  • Develop a budget, and keep essential documentation necessary for financial matters of the program.
  • Engage and promote team program through social media and in collaboration with social media staff members.
  • Engage in the community, and support the local athletics and businesses.
  • Engage in team fundraising in a manner that will allow the team to be at an elevated level, and assist with sponsorship opportunities.
  • Coach student-athletes in their growth and development in the sport with techniques and fundamentals of their position and sport conditioning
  • Collaborate with assistant coaches to plan and direct the athletic team, assigning positions, preparing players for athletic competition, developing, and implementing strategies to improve performance, and determine game strategy.
  • Provide an example of competitive but sportsmanlike conduct.
  • Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes on and off the court/field, and work well with students, faculty, staff, and community.
  • Maintains strong supportive relationships with the student athletes and their families.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree
  • Two to four years of playing and/or previous head coaching experience at the college level
  • Knowledge of the student athlete recruiting process, and connections to recruit high level NJCAA athletes.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

Preferred Qualification:
  • Bachelor's/Master's Degree

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Have a high level of communication skills with their student-athletes, prospective student-athletes, their coaches, counselors, parents, and supportive community.
  • Knowledge of any divisional regulations pertaining to the sport at the NJCAA level.
  • Knowledge of strengthening and conditioning methods and techniques and how to collaborate with support staff.
  • Show dedication both to the sport and to the team and athletes that are coached.
  • Being able to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies required to provide facilities suitable for the team.
  • Knowledge of computer software applications.
  • Knowledge of NJCAA conference, region rules and regulations.
  • Perform fundamental coaching responsibilities effectively under stress.
  • Ability to administer and maintain budget expectations.
  • Ability to organize, manage, supervise, and administer a collegiate program

Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Additionally, indoor or outdoor work environments may include being confined or in narrow spaces for periods of time. The incumbent may also be exposed to loud noises or vibrations from equipment, and conditions that may affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Bending, crawling, and crouching may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
