Appointment Type: Full-Time Temporary (FTT)

Location: Oak Ridge, TN (Hybrid)


This is a hybrid position located in Oak Ridge, TN. It will require coming into the office occasionally for meetings, project related activities, and trainings.

*Salary Range: $17.82 - $23.83 per hour

PURPOSE: Communications and Marketing Intern will receive training in outreach, communications, and engagement in support of the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) STEM Workforce Development (WD) programs. The intern will also serve as a member of a collaborative team focused on enhancing the value of the ORISE experience and creating a diverse and collaborative community designed to support the future of STEM.



Responsibilities

    Assists STEM WD staff in developing impactful content for the continued engagement, professional development, and recognition of ORISE participants and alumni. Duties may include but are not limited to:
    • Assisting in professional development engagement series, postdoc appreciation activities, mentor activities, and alumni engagement. This includes developing presentations, communications, and resources; supporting outreach including delivery and scheduling of messaging; and assisting with reporting and follow up.
    • Assisting in developing content for the ORISE Virtual Institute (VI - website), social media, Experience ORISE newsletter, ORISE Connections, program websites, presentations, etc.
  • Develops content for STEM WD Success Stories, including coordinating request process; interviewing sponsors, mentors, participants, and staff; researching topics; drafting and editing content for publications; arranging approvals; promoting content via social media, newsletters, and websites; and updating SharePoint site. Assists with video development of selected stories.
  • Provides outstanding customer service by monitoring multiple email inboxes and virtual platforms for general inquiries, registration approvals, and communication.
  • Represents ORISE STEM WD and supports activities related to outreach and ORISE community events, both in person and virtual, including interacting with potential applicants, participants, alumni, mentors, sponsors, and staff; preparing outreach materials for shipment; and maintaining materials inventory.
  • Serves on teams, committees, and on special projects.
  • Identifies, researches, and develops special projects related to communication, engagement, or outreach interests to add value to ORISE STEM WD with presentation to leadership.


Qualifications

High school diploma and 2-4 years of job related experience required. Associate or bachelor's degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience requiring similar knowledge, skills, abilities, and performing duties as described may be substituted for the minimum requirements.

  • Requires academic and career interest in outreach and recruiting, marketing, communication, training and development, and/or student affairs.
  • Strong skills in writing and editing, multi-tasking, organization, and strategic and creative thinking.
  • Ability to work productively in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Preferred knowledge of social media engagement, video or digital media, graphic design, event planning, and project management.

*The candidate's starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate's qualifications to determine salary.
