Job Summary

The Manager of Operational Communications leads the development and execution of internal operational and change communications to Grainger KeepStock team members. This role will align to KeepStock in support of the highest priority communications for KeepStock team members. The Manager must be able to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and work collaboratively across a wide variety of positions and business areas. Lead the planning, message development, and distribution/deployment for KeepStock operational communications as well as change communications. Ultimately, this role contributes to enhanced communications effectiveness, change readiness and adoption, and team member engagement.

This role is designed to develop functional area expertise and serve as a subject matter expert in communicating to Grainger's KeepStock team members, create paths to other operational or change communications roles, build bench for Manager or Sr. Manager roles in Communications; or, progressive roles in Technology.

You will report to the Sr. Manager, Change Mgt., Communications, and Deployment and have a dotted line reporting relationship to Sr. Manager, Communications, GBU.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead execution of deliverables for both daily functional communications and change communication needs for the KeepStock business area.
    • Lead communications for internal business functions including and not limited to sales and external customer-facing materials.
    • Partner closely with Corp Comms to effectively communicate the highest priority corporate information by providing input and support on plans, messages, and materials.
  • Work and projects to include managing and improving operational communications channels, content development for operational and deployment communications, KeepStock business initiatives, creation and support of stakeholder engagement strategies, large meeting leader communications support, and change strategy deployment.
  • Manage multiple daily and project work streams concurrently, identifying and elevating integration opportunities and roadblocks to ensure impactful operational communications across teams and functions.
  • Develop standards and processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational communications channels, including communications calendar development, management, and measurement.
  • Manage communications plans, key messages, presentations, and other supporting materials for functional operational priorities and high visibility projects; report out on progress to senior leaders..
  • Manage deployment and change communications.
  • Accurately maintain and update the repository of communications materials.
  • Ensure KeepStock and Grainger's brand is represented positively in operational communications
  • Partner and collaborate with Corporate communications to ensure alignment and connection to strategic and functional communications plans.

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations or related field
  • 5+ years experience in change management and internal communications
  • A willingness to experiment with new ways to communicate with team members
  • Proven success working in a matrixed environment and leading large-scale, complex change initiatives
  • Experience consulting on change communications recommendations to both corporate and field clients.
  • Experience advising peers and leaders on change and operational communications.
  • The ability to craft messaging that can resonate with an hourly employee to leader by evoking emotion and excitement.
  • Proficient in change management practices and aligning communications to the user journey.
  • Strong PowerPoint skills and experience in using design tools to develop communications.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in building and maintaining SharePoint sites

Compensation:

This position is salaried and will pay between $86,100. to 143,500. plus 15% bonus eligibility target. The range provided is a guideline and not a guarantee of compensation. Other factors that are involved in offer decisions include, and are not limited to: a candidate's experience, qualifications, geographical area, and internal equity of the team.
