Minimum Qualifications |
- Earned Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from an accredited institution by the time of appointment
- National certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner
- Three years of progressive leadership in academic programs
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
- Experience with regional and nursing accreditation
- Experience in initiating and maintaining partnerships between academia and practice
- Knowledge of curriculum and curriculum development.
- Ability to think creatively and strategically
- A commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship, compatible with the BCHS mission.

Description of the Department or Unit |
The
Department of Nursing has around 560 students, which includes the pre-licensure
BSN, the online RN to
BSN, and the online
MSN programs with a concentration in nursing education. The
BSN, RN to
BSN, and
MSN programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (
CCNE). The Department is in the process of developing a new
DNP Nurse Practitioner program to begin in fall of 2025.

Appalachian State University's

Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Nursing, the position requires national certification as a Family Nurse practitioner and doctoral preparation in nursing. Candidates who are in the dissertation stage of their terminal degree are eligible to apply if all degree requirements are completed by the date of appointment.
The
DNP Program Director will assume a faculty position as well as an internal leadership position in the Department of Nursing. Specifically, the purpose of the position is to provide leadership in developing the curriculum, oversee the Doctor of Nursing Practice program (Family Nurse Practitioner concentration), and teach in the
DNP program. This may include teaching in the classroom, clinical settings, simulation, or online. The Director will serve as a leader, ambassador, and representative for the
DNP program and is responsible, in collaboration with the faculty, for maintaining the quality of the academic curriculum through development, implementation, and evaluation; accreditation; program evaluation; student recruitment, admissions and progression; and student advisement. As a member of the faculty, the director will be expected to contribute to teaching, practice, scholarship, and service, including participation in official activities of the department, college, and university, among others. |

ABD Description |
ABD with reduction in rank and salary:
ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since
ABD will not meet the minimum requirements,
ABD will not be considered. |
