GIRMC Environmental Services Team Leader

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Serves as a part of the patient care and support teams. Primary responsibilities include assuring assigned area is maintained and daily workload is completed by coordinating, assisting with and monitoring the work of assigned staff; mentoring employees and overseeing quality assurance activities. Ensures work is completed in accordance with department and Medical Center policies, procedures and infection control guidelines.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Delegates and directs workload/periodic assignments and monitors employee's progress to ensure timely completion; ensures effective employee use of time and other resources.

3. *Anticipates/recognizes problem solving opportunities and responds appropriately.

4. *Encourages, redirects, corrects and documents employee performance as appropriate.

5. Interacts with each employee in assigned area on a regular basis.

6. *Provides assistance to employees as appropriate to meet customer demands and appropriate timelines; accesses medication rooms without supervision to perform necessary cleaning.

7. *Assesses employee competencies and level of performance, cross trains employees into specialized areas and periodic assignments and documents training.

8. Records employee daily work activity, unusual occurrences, emergency cleaning and completes work orders; continuously monitors appearance of hospital.

9. Explains, promotes and follows department and hospital policies including safety, security and infection control policies and guidelines.

10. *Utilizes computer to complete required job training and personnel-related activities as needed.

11. Supports and is involved in the Medical Center's Journey to Excellence initiatives.

12. Relays information appropriately over telephones and beepers ensuring patient confidentiality as needed.

13. Operates/demonstrates, cleans, and stores equipment properly.

14. Recognizes and responds to emergency situations according to procedure.

15. *Wears appropriate protective equipment for products and equipment being used and work assignments being completed.

16. Enters restricted access areas, without supervision, to perform assigned work.

17. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

18. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

19. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of environmental services practices and procedures.

2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

3. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English in the performance of assigned job duties.

4. Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and work as a team member.

5. Ability to work with frequent interruptions, changing and emergent work situations.

6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer and ancillary departments including diverse patient populations.

7. Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and customer/patient safety.

8. Ability to perform work using ladders and step stools.

9. Ability to schedule, direct, counsel and evaluate employee work and performance.

10. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.

11. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

12. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

13. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

14. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalency required. Minimum of one (1) year experience performing cleaning responsibilities in a hospital or medical environment required. Prior supervisory experience desired.
