Position Overview
The Department of Health, Sport, and Exercise Sciences in the University of Kansas, School of Education and Human Sciences is seeking candidates for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Exercise Science. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching in the undergraduate and/or graduate degree program. This is a 9-month appointment, full-time, Assistant Teaching Professor position starting August 18, 2025.

The School of Education and Human Sciences was most recently ranked eleventh for public Schools of Education, and the Special Education department consistently ranks number one among public institutions.

The Department of Health, Sport, and Exercise Sciences offers a broad range of academic programs in exercise science, community health, physical education, and sport management. These programs - at the undergraduate, master's and doctoral levels - prepare practitioners, administrators, researchers, faculty members, and leaders for all levels of education.

The Department of Health, Sport, & Exercise Sciences (HSES) at the University of Kansas also has multiple research laboratories. These include the Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory (an Innovation Hub of the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance), the Applied Physiology Laboratory, the Neuro-mechanics Laboratory, and the Cardiovascular Autonomic Laboratory. In addition, the Metabolic & Body composition Laboratory and the Exercise & Human Performance Laboratory are located on the Edwards campus in the Kansas City metro area.

Job Description
80% - Teaching

Twelve credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring) in the Exercise Science program at the University of Kansas. Anticipated course load is four face-to-face or hybrid (part online, part face-to-face) courses in the undergraduate program each semester. The specific courses will be determined based on program need.

10% - Service

Candidate will also contribute to the service mission of the HSES Department, School of Education and Human Sciences, and the University of Kansas.

10% Scholarly Engagement

Active in scholarly engagement activities including but not limited to carrying out course transformation, assessment of learning outcomes, development of pedagogical teaching practices that expand and delivers new methods of teaching to precipitate dynamic learning engagements or other activities to implement innovations in teaching and learning. Scholarly engagement is broadly defined, but typically, not exclusively, includes participation in or presenting professional development and workshops, scholarly presentations at meetings, publications, documenting and disseminating the results of inquiry into improving teaching and learning.

Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications for rank of Associate Professor:
  1. Ph.D., Ed.D., or other terminal degree (or ABD) in Exercise Science or related field
