I. JOB OVERVIEW


Job Description Summary:
The Department of Physician Assistant Studies (PA) within the Health Sciences Division of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences is seeking an Associate Program Director, Physician Assistant Studies to provide oversight and management of didactic education and training initiatives. In close collaboration with the faculty Director of Didactic Education, the position will implement the didactic curriculum which is comprised of 1600 hours of instruction annually to graduate students in the PA program.

This position is expected to independently manage the curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation of the PA program preclinical education. Working closely with the Director of Didactic Education and faculty within the program, this role will support the operations related to the didactic phase. This position is responsible for administrative oversight, such as management of courses (n=22), policy development and revision, and logistics for various initiatives and events. The duties and goals of this role are linked to the success of the program in meeting accreditation standards and program outcomes.

Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

PA Program Support:

  • Supervises a Program Associate dedicated to the didactic phase and 1-2 federal work-study students and/or graduate student employees.
  • Leads various projects assigned by the director of didactic education and/or program director to ensure compliance with accreditation standards related to the administrative aspects of the didactic (preclinical) phase (ARC-PA B Standards) and data analyses (ARC-PA C Standards).
  • Assists the Director of Didactic Education and faculty with administration and management functions.
  • Develops strategies to optimize, enhance/ensure best practices for the operation of the didactic phase of the program and the student experience.
  • Independently troubleshoots and solves problems including, but not limited to, didactic scheduling, faculty changes, and assessments.
  • Manages student remediation processes and corresponding communications in collaboration with the Student Progress Committee chair.
  • Analyzes didactic year learning outcome data to meet ongoing accreditation requirements.
  • Directs program events such as the program orientation and short white coat ceremony.
  • Oversees didactic year activity planning including management of the program academic calendar, lecture hours, and classroom space requests.
  • Works closely with regular and adjunct faculty to provide orientation to and alignment of learning management system and course sites.
  • Provides training/onboarding of regular and adjunct faculty regarding lecture delivery platforms (e.g., Panopto, Blackboard Collaborate, etc.), Box drive, examination software, and PA databases.
  • Provides insight during the review and revisions of didactic course requirements such as grading rubrics, grade sheets, policies, evaluations (student, faculty), student documentation, and curriculum mapping in collaboration with the Director of Didactic Education and faculty course/section directors.
  • Develops and maintains didactic-related databases including those for students, faculty, and program initiatives.
  • Provides periodic reports as needed to the Assistant Director and Director of the PA Program.
  • Participates in recurring program meetings, retreats, and program and university events such as graduation, as needed.
  • Serves on 1-2 PA program committees at the discretion of the Program Director.
  • Serves as liaison to didactic platforms (e.g. Blackboard, Examsoft).
  • Assists Director of Didactic Education with managing the didactic year budget.
  • Serves as point of communication to didactic year students for logistical and scheduling issues.
  • Oversees the proctoring of student exams.
  • Identifies and develops initiatives to improve student experience.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Hiring Range $80,927.47 - $111,231.23
