Job Summary

The Staff Occupational Therapist, the Occupational Therapist II, reports to the Clinical Supervisor, Occupational Therapy and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. The O.T. II works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, although pediatric and adolescent patients may also be treated. Under general direction and upon receipt of written referrals, the Staff Therapist O.T. II plans and administers a full range of occupational therapy services for patients with a variety of physical and cognitive impairments and disabilities. Services include patient evaluations using various physical, cognitive and visual/perceptual tests and measurements, establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs, and implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing occupational therapy techniques. The Staff Occupational Therapist maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient care services. While performing job duties, the Staff O.T. may also supervise support personnel including Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants and Rehabilitation Aides as well as O.T. and O.T.A. students. The Staff O.T. actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, clinical education programs, and inservices and staff development activities.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications


  • Minimum of 12 months experience as a licensed therapist.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to recognize signs of distress.
  • Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
  • Basic computer skills in word processing and on line communication.
  • Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self-initiation skills.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center location.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Prior occupational therapy experience in an academic medical center environment.
  • Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team.
  • Possession of a graduate degree or certificate in Occupational Therapy from an accredited professional educational program.

License/Certification


  • Possession of or proven eligibility for licensure as an Occupational Therapist by the Occupational Therapy Board of California.
  • Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
