Job Summary

This position is based in Charlotte, other Duke Energy locations within the Carolinas may also be considered.

This role will lead renewable project development efforts within Duke Energy's North & South Carolina service territories, working across departments to develop cost-competitive renewable projects. Renewable projects include utility-scale solar, solar paired with storage and wind. This individual will be responsible for developing project sites through the full development cycle, from site identification through notice to proceed. This position requires a broad understanding of the renewable industry landscape, strong development, financial, and technical skills, proven negotiating skills, and an ability to balance competing factors in a dynamic market environment. They should be knowledgeable and skilled in project development, interconnection procedures, federal and state incentive programs, electricity market pricing and risk-management, policy engagement, land origination, financial modeling, and energy market analysis. They should have an understanding of and experience in project due diligence, project M&A, project development and permitting, drivers of project economics, and the ability to optimize project performance. They will lead development projects with significant accountability for performance.

Responsibilities
  • Lead project developer for a portfolio of renewable projects, leading and meeting development and timeline requirements, management of third-party contractors or consultants, lead site investigation and environmental studies, secure local discretionary permitting, preparing and submitting interconnection applications, prepare and manage annual development budget, maintain and update project financial pro forma modeling, prepare, securing long lead time equipment and negotiation of construction agreements, and submit proposals into RFP/RFIs as issued.
  • Ensures business goals and objectives are accomplished through effective negotiations, communication, and work monitoring.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate documentation related to any business development initiative.
  • Develops positive working relationships using effective oral and written communication skills while representing the company in a positive and professional manner.
  • Strives to continually improve renewable business development processes, procedures and performance.
Basic/Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Environment or other related degree
  • In addition to required degree, minimum four (4) years relevant work experience
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience developing renewable projects.
  • Experience and understanding of project due diligence and M&A.
  • Advanced problem solving, project management and implementation skills.
  • Advanced written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven negotiation experience with associated skills and results.
  • Financial and/or energy modelling experience and fluency with financial concepts (IRR, NPV, time value of money, etc.).

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.
  • Office with periodic site visits.
