The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business is comprised of the university's three accredited business schools: The Nolan School of Hotel Administration, the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, and the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management. Our team of specialists provide seamless administrative assistance to faculty, in contributing to the success of an engaging learning experience to our students across our three schools and multiple campuses in Ithaca and New York City. With guidance and coordination of the faculty, our team employs strategies to effectively facilitate student success that supports educational programming across 2 different Bachelor programs, 14 different MBA, MPS, MS, MHA programs, and 3 different PhD programs. Our role is constantly evolving as we navigate the changing landscape of education.

The Opportunity

Under limited direction and in a team-oriented environment, the Faculty Support Specialist will provide broad administrative, organizational, and technical assistance to faculty, specializing in the administrative needs around teaching, research, and travel support. These duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide instructional assistance as requested by faculty, including course materials, grade tracking, set-up, and maintenance of Canvas sites, setting up Zoom meetings and webinars, and distributing Qualtrics surveys.
  • Coordination of class programs.
  • Arranging all phases of travel for faculty and guest speakers for both domestic and international travel.
  • Process print orders, office supplies, subscriptions, and membership renewals.
  • Knowledge of faculty accounts and budget tracking.
  • Constantly evaluate work and make suggestions on efficiencies and process improvements.
  • Backup other administrative assistants across the College, as needed.

This position is based in Ithaca, NY. During the onboarding and training period (about 6 months), the new team member will be expected to work fully onsite. After this training period, a hybrid work arrangement is offered. Employees typically perform this role remotely 1 day per week and on-campus 4 days per week.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree and 2-4 years of related professional experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Experience in handling confidential and sensitive information with utmost discretion and integrity.
  • Demonstrated record of successfully providing exceptional customer service.
  • Attentive listener with the knowledge of how to communicate with tact, diplomacy, and patience with a wide range of internal and external constituents.
  • Experience that demonstrates initiative, sound judgment, creativity, and resourceful solution-finding techniques when faced with a challenge.
  • Must be able to work independently while supporting the efforts of an overall team while fostering a respectful work environment.
  • Excellent organizational techniques, and the ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure, use sound judgment in completing tasks that are urgent; balance conflicting priorities, and make selections from a wide range of choices.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Must be flexible and receptive to new ideas and approaches.
  • Accuracy in spelling, grammar, proofreading and attention to detail required.
  • Experienced in Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
