Position Summary:
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Hardware Design (HW) will be a part of the R&D organization and an important contributor to the realization of the next generation robotic platform that will change the future of healthcare. You will be a highly visible technical resource working on development of complex electro-mechanical systems. There will be direct involvement from prototype to verification builds and testing within a regulated medical device development environment. This role is suited for a senior-level R&D engineer with experience in developing complex electromechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead designing complex mechanical systems from concept to validation.
- Implement Computer aided design (CAD) best practices including master sketch/modeling and model base design (MBD).
- Create 2D mechanical and electrical (cable) drawings by using GD&T where it is needed.
- Maintain disciplined test, configuration control, documentation, and management processes throughout.
- Creation of 2D/3D drawings with working knowledge of ASME drafting standards including GD&T (Y14.5-2018).
- Support a variety of multi-disciplinary technical and process improvement projects of different sizes and scopes.
- Help with the vendor communications and procurement issues.
- Manage and communicate assigned projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Qualifications:
- 6+ years work experience in complex electromechanical system in highly regulated R&D environment. Medical device design and development experience is highly desired.
- Bachelor's and/or master's degree in mechanical engineering.
- Extensive experience in designing for machined parts.
- Experience in casted and molded parts is a plus.
- Experience in designing for compliance with IEC 60601, design for manufacturability, and design for serviceability.
- Must have hands-on experience in design, assembly and testing of electro-mechanical systems.
- Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Knowledge of industry best practices for development of complex electromechanical systems.
- Demonstrated CAD proficiency highly in SolidWorks and PDM.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS Finite Element Analysis tools.
- Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management PLM software and ECOs.
- Develop production and support documentation including bills of material (BOMs), assembly drawings, and maintenance instructions.
- Able to execute assigned projects and duties with minimum supervision.
- Outstanding documentation and communication skills required.
- Proficiency in using MS Office required.
