Description of Work

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Tenured and Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate goals.
Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum and instructional development, and grading student work.
Scholarly Research, Creative, and Other Professional Activities - All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in expanding the knowledge base of their academic field by conducting research or engaging in other creative activities as appropriate to the faculty member's discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to research may include but are not limited to: research/creative activity that generates new knowledge and/or synthesizes and/or integrates existing knowledge, publication, an on-going agenda for research, scholarly, and creative activity, and are expected to seek extramural support for their work.
Service to University, the Public, and the Profession - All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to: service to the administration and governance of the University, public service, and service to the profession.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The UNC Charlotte Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering ( CEE) invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position in the area of Water Resources Engineering with an anticipated start date of August 15, 2025. All candidates will be considered, but those with expertise in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: groundwater and/or surface water hydrology, hydraulics, climate change, extreme events, artificial intelligence/machine learning approaches, and large system modeling.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to research, teaching, and service. We seek individuals who can contribute to the department's research initiatives and engage effectively with students at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Candidates will be responsible for establishing a robust research program including securing external funding, publishing high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals, mentoring and advising students, including supervising doctoral dissertation research, developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in their respective area of water resources engineering, and participating in departmental and university service activities.
Minimum Experience/Education
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in civil engineering or a related field. While not required, candidates with a Professional Engineering (PE) license, or willingness to obtain one, are encouraged to apply. Candidates are expected to exhibit dedication to excellence in research, teaching, and professional service.

Priority will be given to candidates with research interests that align with the department's strategic areas of focus, a strong record of scholarly research and publications, a record of obtaining or the potential to obtain significant research funding, and experience with interdisciplinary research and industry partnerships. The ability to contribute to the University's Research Areas of Focus and Distinction (such as Smart and Sustainable Cities) is beneficial. A Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering (or a related field) is required. The College of Engineering has several research centers that offer excellent opportunities for collaboration. These centers include the Center for Environmental Monitoring and Informatics Technologies for Public Health ( CEMIT), Charlotte AIR institute, the Center for Applied Geographic Information Science ( CAGIS), and the Energy Production & Infrastructure Center ( EPIC).
