Job Summary

Performs duties in relation to operation of Parking Facility/Garage and variety of supportive functions which include, but are not limited to; customer focused service; cash handling; operating and maintaining access revenue control equipment; manually or mechanically operating gates and ticket issuing machines; filling out reports; facility cleaning and maintenance; ensuring the safe and efficient use of the facilities; performing related duties as required. Keeps the Assistant Parking Manager for Operations informed of problems with facilities, signs, equipment and users.

Essential Functions



  • Manually or mechanically operates gates or other mechanism for parking garage entry or egress.
  • Collects payment and related parking garage fees.
  • At end of shift is responsible for securing and preparing cash receipts for pickup by courier; regularly completes a shift report.
  • Assists customers with parking, exiting parking garage, locating vehicles or calling for repair service/assistance as necessary.
  • Assist customers in the use of automated revenue control equipment including ticket dispensers, pay stations, gate lane equipment and related credentials.
  • Provides customer service assistance and information to University employees, students, visitors, and others as necessary and appropriate.
  • Enforces parking regulations, issues parking tickets, and prevents unauthorized use of parking garage.
  • Supervises a small number of student employees engaged in operations and upkeep of parking garage.
  • Provides on-the-job training for new employees and student employees as needed or requested.
  • Checks facility for cleanliness and availability of parking space; reports on garage conditions as directed.
  • Responsible for all aspects of parking garage signage, painted stripes and symbols; paints parking facilities.
  • Operates and maintains access revenue control equipment, light equipment, sweeper and motorized carts.
  • Keeps facility clean by sweeping, power washing and clearing away debris; Snow removal duties including shoveling, salting and operation of snow thrower.
  • Reports unusual occurrences to immediate supervisor.
  • Attends periodic training as determined by departmental needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)



  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the general public and co-workers.
  • Ability to use common office machines and computer programs (MS Windows).
  • Ability to log information and make mathematical computations quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, verbal and written; ability to communication effectively in all types of circumstances with students, faculty, staff and campus visitors.
  • Proficient in basic math skills commensurate with calculating time and cash equivalents; ability to manually perform arithmetical computations with accuracy (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Good phone etiquette; ability to provide prompt and courteous responses to all incoming calls.
  • Ability to be trained to operate and maintain revenue control equipment, light equipment and sweeper.
  • Ability to prepare reports as necessary; Knowledge of basic office computer programs such as MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook.
  • Ability to understand, explain, communicate Parking Services policies and procedures.
  • Ability to take direction or be self-directed; Ability to work independently.
  • Good organizational skills; Ability to set priorities and follow through on assignments.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions; ability to stand and walk alone for prolonged periods; ability to carry up to ten (40) pounds or more in equipment while walking or standing.
  • Class D Driver's License.


Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)



  • One-year experience in a diverse customer service environment.
  • Knowledge of parking related computer software programs.


Physical Demands/Working Conditions



  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions; ability to stand and walk alone for prolonged periods; ability to carry up to ten (40) pounds or more in equipment while walking or standing.
  • Snow removal duties including shoveling, salting and operation of snow thrower.

  • Knowledge of locations of University facilities, buildings and services.
  • Knowledge of UMA Parking Services Rules & Regulations regarding all aspects of parking.
  • Knowledge of the University's parking programs, parking enforcement and the citation appeals process.
  • Uniforms determined by department.
  • Mandatory overtime may be required in accordance with union contract.


Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday; 3pm - 11pm
