The Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity (
AFHE) is part of a global community of seven fellowship programs focused on improving equity.
AFHE is based in the Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity (
Mullan Institute) in the Milken Institute School of Public Health. The Mullan Institute focuses on health equity and has a robust research and education portfolio.
AFHE falls under the education portfolio and is focused on the development of global leaders working in the health equity sphere.
The Finance Assistant will provide fiscal support for the
AFHE program, reporting to the Senior Financial Analyst, Mullan Institute and collaborating with
AFHE staff.
The position will report to the Senior Finance Manager and will collaborate with the
AFHE program staff on all program operations.
Essential Job Duties:
- Process various forms of payments, including but not limited to, invoices, stipends, honorariums and travel reimbursements.
- Process invoices from consultants and contractors, checking against the terms of the contract and the balance of funds available to cover the payment.
- Reconcile expenses charged to the Procurement credit cards (Pcard) for the program.
- Create requisitions for the setup of contracts by GW Procurement.
- Review and reconcile program expenditures against the budget monthly.
- Ensure all fiscal activities are compliant with the University's policies and guidelines.
- Act as a liaison for fiscal and administrative matters with entities within the university, such as Accounts Payable, Procurement, and Payroll.
- Maintain electronic records and databases, according to the department's internal procedures.

Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/
GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Proficient in MS Excel including Pivot tables.
- Previous experience in one of the following areas: budgeting, accounting, finance, financial analysis and/or cost analysis is necessary, with experience working in either pre-award or post-award research administration strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational, customer service, and interpersonal skills are necessary and highly detail-oriented and a team player and problem solver.
- Proficiency in contemporary software applications is necessary. Strong analytical and writing skills are preferred.
- A bachelor's degree, preferred.
