Position Highlights |
The Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases' Petersen HIV Clinic provides comprehensive healthcare and support services to people with, or at risk for, HIV. The Petersen HIV Clinic is seeking candidates for a Clinical Pharmacist (Pharmacist III). The incumbent will work as a vital member of a multidisciplinary team consisting of ID physicians and members of the Ryan White program to provide excellent levels of care for patients to include treatment adherence services. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work week flexible work arrangement in conversation with the supervisor. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Evaluates medication orders for contraindications; drug-drug interactions; drug-food interactions; allergies and appropriateness of drug, dose, frequency and route.
- Formulates patients' treatment plans and initiate, modify, and continue appropriate drug therapy in accordance with HIV standards of practice or in consultation with the primary physicians.
- Initiates requests for appropriate laboratory and other diagnostic studies as needed for monitoring drug therapy.
- Provides treatment adherence counseling and support for patients in the HIV Treatment Adherence Program.
- Assists patient and multidisciplinary team with solving medication issues (i.e., prior authorization, patient assistance programs, and financial support programs).
- Acts as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents in clinic.
- Provides educational information for patients and families, program staff, and other patient care professionals. This may be in the form of a continuing education presentation or other department-wide communication.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to travel to different clinic sites.
- Strong understanding of HIV pharmacy services, and knowledge of HIV/AIDS medications and treatment.
- Possess a high level of organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, and track both long-term and short-term projects while performing day-to-day tasks.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively work with a multidisciplinary team to solve problems or improve operations.
- Ability to demonstrate personal responsibility, respect for self and others, innovation through teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Licensure as a Registered Pharmacist by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience is required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience, including completion of 3 years of clinical pharmacy experience providing comprehensive medication management services in ambulatory care/internal medicine/infectious diseases setting within the last 3 years or equivalent of completing an ASHP accredited PGY1 with ambulatory care/internal medicine/infectious diseases experience.
- Must have ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy

Preferred Qualifications |
- Completion of ASHP accredited PGY2 with specialization in ambulatory care, infectious diseases, internal medicine or equivalent work experience.
- Board certification or Certified Pharmacist by American Academy of HIV Medicine.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Experience with Quality Improvement practices.
- Experience working in a clinical/hospital setting or with populations who are at high risk for HIV/AIDS or other disease states.
