Position Highlights |
The Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies (DPS) in the College of Education (COE) at the University of Arizona invites applications for a Limited Term Adjunct position specializing in the Mild to Moderate Disabilities Program. This program, accredited by the Arizona Department of Education, prepares students to teach individuals with mild to moderate disabilities. Graduates who successfully complete the program and student teaching are eligible to apply for the Provisional Mild to Moderate (K-12) Special Education Teaching Certificate in the state of Arizona.
The successful candidate will support this dynamic program by providing instruction in key areas such as assessment, intervention, and behavior support for students with mild to moderate disabilities, as well as contributing to curriculum development and program evaluation through teaching a course (SERP 403 or assigned course). Responsibilities will also include guiding and mentoring students through practicum and student teaching experiences, ensuring they meet program and state licensure requirements. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of special education issues, assessment practices, and effective instructional strategies for mild to moderate disabilities, as well as knowledge of current trends in inclusive education and culturally sustaining practices. Experience in online and hybrid course delivery is highly desirable, as the program offers courses in a variety of formats, including online and in-person. This position is not eligible for tenure. The committee will review applications starting in November. Targeted hire date is for Spring 2025 semester. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Foster a positive, equitable, and
inclusive learning environment for students - Participate
in college and department events and meetings as assigned - Establish and maintain a positive and supportive
working relationship with co-workers and supervisor - Support
and participate in general program recruitment efforts - Teach
SERP 403 to mild/moderate and other special program students - Supervise
and support students remotely through online technology, and develop instructional materials - Perform
other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work collaboratively with
colleagues and program students in the program - Communicate
effectively through spoken or written English

Minimum Qualifications |
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in special education.
- Minimum
of three years of experience teaching and supervising graduate students. - Experience
with special education population in mild/moderate area - Experience
with online learning platforms and remote supervision using online tools, such as Zoom. - Experience administering and
interpreting formal and informal assessments with PK-12 grade students. - Experience
working with individuals with diverse educational, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds. - Expertise in course and curriculum
development.
