Position Highlights |
The Poetry Center, in the College of Humanities (COH), is looking for a highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individual to fill the position of Education and Outreach Assistant. The successful candidate will help develop, deliver, and administer educational and community programs for internal and external audiences. The position promotes learning and outreach activities for individuals, families, organizations, and communities. The position also works with community partners, including area K-12 schools and regional libraries, to develop, coordinate, and implement programs focused on meeting various community needs and interests. The position is expected to deliver content and programming to support the Poetry Center's mission of outreach and education to national and regional partners, and internal and external stakeholders, with a focus on Title 1 K-12 schools. The Education and Outreach Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Executive Director and the Education Programs Coordinator, along with Poetry Center staff to coordinate the logistics of program implementation.

Duties & Responsibilities |
Alumni Jacquelynn and Bennet Dorrance have made a gift commitment of $5.4 million to endow the deanship of the University of Arizona College of Humanities to bring the humanities to the forefront of the University of Arizona's life and mission through a continuous and fearless spirit of open inquiry. - Coordinate the schedules and responsibilities of multiple independent contractors who provide services in various community and internal educational programs
- Facilitate letters of agreement and business office paperwork for all independent contractors
- Maintain departmental responsibilities (meetings, email, phone, etc.)
- Provide support to community outreach programs and service providers:
- K-12 Education Programs: Kids Create, Brave Books, Field Trips, education marketing, and curating K-12 web-based content
- Community programs: Poetry Out Loud, and Writing the Community
- Assists with establishing contact with appropriate community resources, including:
- Manage logistics of scheduling and communication with teachers, families, contractors and program participants
- Assist in continually monitoring programs, instructors, contractors, and volunteers for quality assurance and relevance to the state and national standards and best practices in youth development
- Assist in reviewing existing content, curriculum, strategies, and research/evaluation to make recommendations and implement approved modifications
- Connect and collaborate with the University of Arizona campus and community partners, including local and statewide school districts, Pima County, Cochise County, and Santa Cruz County libraries to develop community programs
- In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Education Programs Coordinator manage fundraising, development, budget, and fiscal responsibilities
- Work with the Executive Director and the Education Programs Coordinator to identify and secure grants and donations in support of programs
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Requires knowledge of industry practices and educational standards and techniques
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Requires ability to work independently as well as a part of the team

Minimum Qualifications |
- High School diploma and 3 years of relevant work experience.
|
Preferred Qualifications |
- 5 years relevant work experience
- Bilingual Spanish/English
- Experience with Southern Arizona K-12 and non-profit community organizations
