About the Opportunity

The WVU College of law seeks applications for a Fellow to support the Fitzsimmons Center for Litigation and Advocacy, whose mission is to train law students to become effective legal advocates by enhancing and expanding the litigation and advocacy curriculum at the WVU College of law. Candidates should have a passion for advocacy and proven leadership and administration skills.

The fellow will report directly to the director of the Fitzsimmons Center for Litigation and advocacy. This position will be a one-year contract with the potential for a renewal.

What You'll Do



  • Assist the director of the Center in developing and implementing a strategic plan to access and enhance curricular opportunities and practical training for law students. The plan will include, among other things, assessing the current legal writing and advocacy curriculum and assisting with curricular planning and course design for new courses that focus on incorporating more practical litigation and advocacy skills.
  • Assist the director in outreach efforts to the bench and bar to gather feedback on emerging areas of the law that may be appropriate for specialized courses and require more in-depth practical training for law students to be successful practitioners. The Fellow will also assist in developing programming for law students as well as the bench and bar, including workshops or continuing legal education programs.
  • Include innovative ways to support and train instructors who teach simulation or experiential litigation and advocacy courses


Work Hours: 10 hours per week

Length of Assignment: 9 Months

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA accredited institution required
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience involving:

    • Litigation experience required, including criminal jury trials.
    • Federal practice experience preferred.




Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Applicants must have strong academic credentials; writing experience in a judicial clerkship, law practice, or both; as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate with various constituencies preferred.
