Description:

Provides high-level center management across a portfolio of complex academic, community-engaged partnerships, training and intervention based research activities in a campus-based public health research/practice center. The Assistant Director (AD) ensures that activities are conducted meticulously and in compliance with funding agencies and within campus, state and/or federal regulations. Housed within the Administrative Core for the Center, the Assistant Director works as a project team leader in collaboration with the Center Director and the Deputy Directors in carrying out all CECHE research activities, providing both analytical and organizational skills to enable CECHE to build including organization across cores and with pilot and funded research projects. The AD also provides day-to-day oversight and is essential to developing partner relationships with diverse groups, contributing to center development and delivery of training/technical assistance within UIC and externally.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage daily research operations of the Center for Climate Health Equity, an NIH funded climate health center, including oversight of staff and graduate assistants.

  • Serve as a team member to carryout CECHE specific research and community outreach, engagement and partner activities, including development of community-based interventions; support creation and implementation of the Climate Health Institute to support climate change interventions for community partners in environmental justice communities; support diverse faculty in implementation and evaluation of the Climate Health Institute; identification and development of comprehensive policy, practice, systems, and environmental health training resources for advancing climate change and health knowledge across academic disciplines and with the public; connecting community partners to local/national resources; carrying out effective program evaluation; and supporting evidence- based climate health solutions using a cumulative impacts and systems thinking frameworks.

  • Assist community-based organizations with education, capacity building, and implementation of evidence-based interventions for mitigation and adaptation to local climate change threats.

  • Provide project investigators and staff with ongoing guidance and support to meet programmatic, fiscal, reporting, and evaluation guidelines of NIH, travel to annual meetings and support the program through individual, project team, and CECHE leadership meetings, trainings and workshops for the Center.

  • Create systems for effective implementation of research project activities and work closely with investigators and staff to regularly communicate on the progress, challenges, and opportunities during different phases of the CHW research projects.

  • Contribute to the development of additional proposals and strategic planning initiatives within the core aims of the CHW research activities.

  • Communicate and disseminate research findings to various stakeholders and to support the translation of findings via research briefs, technical assistance and training activities, and novel communication products.

  • Collaborate with the unit Grants & Contracts Associate to ensure compliance with funder requirements and reporting.

  • Convene, coordinate, correspond with and provide infrastructure for external advisory board, research network members, develop and maintain relationships with research, training, and dissemination partners.

  • Participate in federal NIH Climate Health Community; engage local and national partner organizations to promote CECHE research and leverage relationships to improve community engagement

  • Represent CECHE and all associated activities through participation in external community events and meetings related to the area of expertise and position responsibilities. Identify and coordinate working relationships with peers and key contacts at other research sites and participating community organizations.

  • Foster relationships with key partners/stakeholders at the national, state, and local levels. Attend internal and external meetings and professional conferences as a representative of CECHE.

  • Develop and carry out communication plans to engage stakeholders and promote recognition of the CECHE through social media, newsletters, web content, blog posts, and training videos.

  • Facilitate effective communication, dissemination, and translation of scientific evidence and best practices generated from CECHE research.

  • Curate, manage, and oversee the updating of content on the CECHE websites.

  • Develop and carry out communication plans to engage stakeholders and promote recognition of the CECHE through social media, newsletters, web content, blog posts, and training videos.

  • Write scholarly materials, including summaries of research findings, presentations and other documents; draft policy, practice, and research briefs for publication. Serve as liaison with graphic designer.

  • Oversee federal and local project evaluation efforts including collection of data for the internal evaluations and NIH annual report and Research Performance Progress Report. Manage submission of NIOSH's annual report, Research Performance Progress Report, and other prior approval submissions to NIH's eRA Commons and Assist systems.

  • Analyze collected data and report findings to Principal Investigators, research staff, and to the CECHE Network.

  • Analyze financial data for center research/pilot project and provide guidance to investigators regarding project expenditures, acting as a liaison between investigators and the unit Grants and Contracts Associate.

  • Hire, train, develop, and manage staff (project coordinators, communications research assistant, and others as appropriate).

  • Plan, assign, and review work of staff to ensure that CECHE objectives are met.

  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications

    • A Master's Degree in Public Health, Public Policy, or related field required.
    • A minimum of 3 years of research management experience with community-based participatory research programs; including direct research experience on qualitative and/or quantitative projects.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bi-lingual/Spanish Speaking


    Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000
