Summary of Job Duties:The Audiology Director is responsible for the strategic, operational, and clinical leadership of the Audiology Surgical Specialties Service Line at UAMS. This position oversees the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered audiological care, ensuring compliance with professional, regulatory, and organizational standards. The Audiology Director will also focus on enhancing patient experience, driving performance improvement, and fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Audiology (Au. D.) from an accredited program plus ten (10) years of clinical audiology experience, including two (2) years in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • By date of hire, a current audiology license in Arkansas and Certification of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Preferred Qualifications or Competencies:

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills; ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in diagnostic audiological procedures, auditory rehabilitation, and use of audiological equipment and software.

  • Current audiology license in Arkansas and Certification of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

    Responsibilities:

    • Participates in ongoing hospital performance assessment and process improvement. Ensures continuing department performance assessment and process improvement. Create work processes to enhance customer satisfaction and reduce waste.

    • Departmental Leadership and Management: Provide overall leadership and direction for the Audiology Department, ensuring effective management of personnel, resources, and clinical operations. Develop and implement strategic goals, policies, and procedures to align with the organization's mission and vision. Monitor departmental performance, establish benchmarks, and implement corrective actions to improve clinical and operational outcomes.

    • Oversee the provision of diagnostic and therapeutic audiological services, including hearing assessments, hearing aid fittings, cochlear implants, and auditory rehabilitation. Ensure compliance with evidence-based clinical guidelines and maintain the highest standards of patient care. Stay updated on advances in audiology and implement new techniques, technologies, and best practices as appropriate.

    • Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate audiology staff, including audiologists, audiology assistants, and support personnel. Foster a positive work culture focused on teamwork, professional growth, and excellence in patient care.

    • Conduct performance evaluations, address performance issues, and develop plans for staff development and retention.

    • Develop and manage the department's budget, ensuring efficient use of financial, human, and physical resources. Identify opportunities for cost reduction while maintaining or enhancing quality of care. Oversee inventory management, equipment maintenance, and procurement of supplies.

    • Monitor patient satisfaction and implement improvement strategies to enhance the patient experience. Lead quality improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care and address complex patient needs.

    • Ensure departmental compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, ASHA). Develop and implement risk management strategies to minimize liabilities and ensure patient safety. Maintain complete and accurate documentation in compliance with organizational and legal requirements.

    • Represent the Audiology Department in community outreach, marketing, and educational initiatives. Establish partnerships with local organizations and healthcare providers to promote audiological health and awareness. Develop and deliver educational materials and presentations for patients, families, and staff.

    • Participate in professional/institutional advancement. Participate in continuing education.

    • Promotes a safe working environment by complying with department and institutional safety policies. Observes safe work practices and provides input on safety issues. Responds in emergency situations. Intervenes to unsafe situations by taking action.

    • Includes VNG, CDP, Platform post-urography, hearing aid counsel, hearing aid selection, testing & fitting. Cochlear Implant assessment, fitting, and programming. Electroacoustic analysis of amplification prosthetics. Speech mapping/Real ear measurements. Completes accurate and thorough chart notes and dictation in a timely manner. Provides patient education of procedures to be performed.

    • Restocks supplies in audiology rooms/orders hearing aids. Evaluates equipment for repairs.

    • Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed. Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary. Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments; follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines. Assist internal and external stakeholders as needed with exceptional customer service.

    • Other duties may be assigned to this position.
