Our Team:

The Budget and Finance Team within the SC Johnson College of Business supports strategic and transactional financial operations across our three schools, our central college unit, the Statler Hotel, and across our two campuses in Ithaca and NYC. This team consists of individuals who take a progressive approach to financial planning and reporting, utilizing data-driven techniques and tools to support our college's mission and enhance our organizational effectiveness.

This Position:

Under the general direction of the Associate Director and as a highly engaged member of the greater finance team, this position works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and leadership within the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business to plan and execute financial activities primarily related to non-sponsored funding.

This position requires strong communication and collaboration with leadership, budget owners, and business partners. The Budget and Finance Representative processes financial and account-related transactions, performs reconciliations and analyses, conducts financial reviews, provides financial reports, and supports annual budget development and various current year reforecast and year-end close processes. The duties of this position also include KFS chart management, handling invoices and billings for internal and affiliated organizations, and maintaining payment processor documentation and related system access. The Budget and Finance Representative co-manages the SC Johnson College Finance customer service mailbox and provides backup to fellow team members as necessary to meet departmental demands and deadlines.

As a member of the Finance team, this position is also responsible for assisting with the development and maintenance of documented standard operating procedures (SOPs) and providing training and guidance as needed to fellow team members, faculty, and staff on processes and best practices. This position requires staying current with Cornell University and SC Johnson College of Business policies and procedures related to finance and participating in trainings through the Division of Financial Services (DFS).

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or 1-2 years of formal training beyond a HS diploma with 2-4 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Accounting experience and/or formal coursework in accounting applications
  • Ability to compile, analyze, and report on complex data
  • Excellent customer service skills and demonstrated ability to communicate and work with a broad range of people
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure, use judgement in accomplishing tasks, balance conflicting priorities, and make decisions from a range of choices
  • Comfortable working in an environment where change in process/procedures is the norm
  • Ability to proceed alone on regular tasks, consulting with supervisor on questionable situations
  • Ability to work independently while supporting the efforts of the overall team
  • Ability and willingness to enhance personal knowledge, skills, and abilities as needed
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2-4 years concentrated experience in a financial office setting
  • Prior work experience in Cornell University units
  • Understanding of Cornell policies and procedures related to financial processing and management
  • Familiarity with University systems: KFS, Tableau, OAS
  • Expertise with Excel, KFS, OAS Dashboards
