Position Summary
The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer will be dedicated to supporting the Supplier Quality Engineering Group. This role will ensure that our suppliers of custom engineered hardware are capable of consistently and reliably manufacturing / fabricating hardware to Oceaneering purchase orders via design drawings, specifications, and requirements with minimum oversight, inspection, or rework. The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer will support Oceaneering projects, programs, and development initiatives by providing technical input and guidance on manufacturing techniques, Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE), materials, welding, machining, Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) reviews, and First Article Inspection (FAI) development. The role will also be responsible for assessing design manufacturability, providing clarification of specifications, understanding application of quality codes, and contribute to process enhancements and improvements. The role assures suppliers are in the best position to deliver our hardware / services with first-time quality, thereby allowing for lower costs and on-time delivery. This position works with suppliers to develop and implement best practices / supplier development that target defect prevention, variation, and waste. LOCATION * Requires periodic work at site, travel to supplier sites; otherwise, a hybrid position. * Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 25-30%.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Work with Engineering and Supply Chain Management (SCM) to define process and quality parameters criteria [Critical to Process (CTP) and Critical to Quality (CTQ)] to ensure supplier process capability is effective to meet Oceaneering product, process, or service requirements. * Lead Pre-production meetings that mitigate supplier production risks in the early phase of manufacturing / fabrication. * Lead assessment, due-diligence, communication, and mitigation of supplier risk for assigned area of supply (fabrication, machining, forging, casting). * Support SCM Category Management in establishing long-term strategic supplier development plans to facilitate product roadmaps and risk prevention strategies pertaining to improving quality. * Lead cross-functional teams in the qualification of suppliers of critical hardware / challenging engineering packages, through assessment of the suppliers' manufacturing capability to fabricate and deliver our products/ services. * Lead supplier development projects that assess supplier process capability, help achieve process stability through reduced variation, improve capability, availability, and performance. * Utilize advanced quality practices and tools to analyze risks and systemic issues and transform supplier quality. * Perform supplier capability assessments / audits related to quality systems, process controls, and manufacturing capabilities. * Trend, monitor, and help improve supplier performance through elimination of variation / waste and reduction of COPQ (Cost of Poor Quality). * Manage the implementation and execution of supplier corrective action / preventive action plans. * Lead problem solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers. * Mentor and guide other Supplier Quality Engineers, Quality Engineers, and Project Engineers in supplier capability assessments and audits related to quality systems, process controls, and manufacturing capabilities. * Produce well-written technical reports, develop, and make presentations. * Conducts root cause analyses, investigations, provides corrections and recommendations for improvement to resolve problems and prevent schedule delays. * Develop technical reports, business correspondence, and create procedures, manuals. * Undertake special projects as required.
Qualifications
REQUIRED * Bachelor's degree or comparable experience in an engineering discipline; Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Welding, Metallurgy, or extensive equivalent technical experience. * Minimum 8 years of experience in Engineering / Quality positions. * Ability to utilize Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance in the analysis of current and future products. * Thorough understanding of basic manufacturing techniques; set-up, machining, casting, forging, NDE, dimensional, welding, and general mechanical design. * Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings, specifications, and general knowledge of what is required in a complete engineering / Purchase Order package to be provided to a supplier. * Comprehensive knowledge of quality management systems and principles and a variety of operational excellence processes. * Ability to assess the effectiveness of suppliers' quality controls and recommend improvements. * Ability to develop First Article Inspection documents, review/recommend changes to supplier provided. Inspection and Test Plans. * Familiar with various machining and measurement devices (CNC, Faro Arm, etc.). * Understanding and familiarity with general industry standards (ASME BPVC Sect. VIII, IX, AWS D1.1,1.6, ASTM, ANSI, etc.). DESIRED * Experience as a manufacturing engineer with materials, fabrication, machining, forging, and casting. * Qualified, competent, and certified as an ISO 9001 lead auditor. * Lean, Six Sigma (Green Belt), or equivalent knowledge. * Experience in applicable mechanical, welding, and engineering disciplines. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS * Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, technical procedures, or government regulations. * Advanced knowledge and ability to evaluate manufacturing and production processes. * Ability to effectively develop presentations, present information, and respond to questions from groups of managers, project managers, clients, and suppliers. * Strong written and verbal communications. * Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with no supervision. * Ability to evaluate quality of manufacturing and production processes against good manufacturing practices, company purchase order specifications, engineering package, quality codes, etc. * Skills to effectively present information and respond to questions.
Additional Information
This position is Hybrid - Remote and will require commuting to a designated office. Hybrid work schedules are determined by the hiring manager based on business need.
